On* Monday, March 7th the Bethpage
Water District held a public
meeting to explain and receive public
comment ontheir requestforthe Town
Of Oyster Bay to approve a 6.4 million
dollar bond issue for the Treatment
and Maintenance of Bethpage's Water.
Bottom Line, the District has been
and is still, providing safe drinking
water for Bethpage Residents. However,
in tracking the Grumman/Navy/.
Hooker/ plumejt appears that treatment
isinevita^le and^tnoreover; prudent
planningcalls for action now to
beef up water storage and.supply in
areas that remain uneffected by the
plumes path. ..,.,-...
•j The Bethpage Water Districts five
year plan was explained by:! the
District's consultant Mr. John MOlloy
of H2M Group Corp. With questions
fielded by Water District Chairman
Sal Greco, Superintendent Ron
Krumholz and Water District Council
Anthony Sabino. Molly explained a
five year plan for the 6.4 million dollar
bond involving maintenance, increasing
capacity arid improving fire flow.
Treatment shall take place by constructing
air stripping treatment facilities
at plant #4 and Plant #5. Increasing
capacity shall be provided by constructing
a New 1.25 million gallon
elevated storage tank and new supply
well. Presently, the Water District
is looking at the Plainview Road site
just south of Charles Campagne, to
locate the new water tower. Lastly,
maintenance sljiall-be proyi^e'd. by
repainting the existing Water storage
tank, as well asi upgrading existing
storage and electrical facilities.
Why is Treatment necessary?
Presently treatment is not necessary.
However, studying the plume
and known organics near the plants
indicate that treatment will be necessary
at some time in the future. Since,
funding and construction is a lengthly

BETHPAGE FIREFIGHTERS RESCUE
DRIVER FROM B U R M G CAR
Fast action by the Bethpage Fire
Department saved the life of a motorist
whose car went out of control on •
Route 107 on March 4th.
The driver, who suffered an apparent
heart attack, was unconscious
and trapped inside the vehicle after it
left the road, crashed into a fence,
and caught fire in front of 810 South
Broadway.
About 12:50 P.M. Bethpage Assistant
Fire ChietGary^Heatn was driving
rior|)Dound:on>Rt^07 when he
came upon the accident shortly after
it occurred. After calling for radio assistance,
Chief Hearn attempted to
free the driver from the burning vehicle.
Bethpage Engine 44, driven by Ex-
Captain Vincent Valente, only a short
distance away arrived within seconds
and immediately went into operation.
Under the command of Captain
Gregory Patsos, Firefighters John
O'Connor and Robert Comicelli began
to extinguish the fire; simultaneously,
Captain Patsos and
Firefighter Robert Mangano entered
the burning vehicle through the passenger
window and attempted to free
the victim while Lt. Paul Patsos and
Firefighter Dale Schultz used the Hurst
Tool to free the victim's legs.
After the victim was extricated,
Firefighters Mangano and Schultz
determined that he was in cardiac
arrest and began immediate life support
until the arrival of NCPD AEMT
Francis X. DeBobes, who. assisted
firefighters with the resuscitation and
transported him to Central General
Hospital.

boards of directors of Martin
Marietta Corporation and Grumman
Corporation said today they
have entered into a definitive
agreement to combine the two
companies and have unanimously
approved a $55-per-share cash
offer by Martin Marietta for Grum-man's
outstanding shares.
The transaction, valued at
approximately $1.9 billion, will be
effected through a cash tender
offer expected to commence
tomorrow, March 8. The offer will
be for all but no less than two-
