DISCOVERING A
WONDERFUL PROGRAM

SETS ROOTS IN BETHPAGE

Doesn't every child need something to do during the summer? Something
educational, enriching and fun. Well it is those three qualities and so
many more that can be found in The Bethpage Discovery Program. This
program, which was the brainstorm of Sandra Watson and Ellen Tjimos,
began the second week of July and ends on August 4. This program
is so wonderful it is hard to even describe it. My suggestion is that you
take a moment to see the Discovery Program in action at their Open
House on August 4th from 11:00 to noon at Kramer Lane School. You'll
sample the wonderful movie, arts and crafts, and science projects that
are just some of the many activities of this program.
I had the honor of attending Mrs. Catalano's class again on Wednesday,
July 27, to speak to them about being an editor for a local newspaper.
I'm sure I enjoyed the experience even more than the children. Mrs.
Catalano, as I have mentioned before, along with many others, works
tirelessly and is truly dedicated. If you have a child in the district between
the ages of kindergarten through 8th grade, think about the Bethpage
Discovery Program for next summer. It is a wonderful way to have your
children close to you while enjoying an affordable camp-like experience.
Congratulations to all envolved. The program is just what the doctor
ordered!
LILCO SEEKS USE PERMIT
A request from LILCO for a
special use permit to operate a
compressed natural gas filling
station at its Hicksville operations
center will be the subject of a
Tuesday, September 13, public
hearing by the Oyster Bay Town
Board, according to Town Coun­cilman
Angelo A. Delligatti.
"LILCO is seeking the special
use permit to erect and maintain
a filling station for compressed
natural gas, a low-polluting fuel
for vehicles being promoted by the
federal government for use by
large utility fleet owners such as
LILCO," Councilman Delligatti
explained. "The facility would be
located on the grounds of LILCO's
Executive Office and Operations
Center at 175 Old Country Road,
Hicksville. The property is zoned
'H' light industry."
The meeting will be held in the
hearing room of Town Hall East,
Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay,
beginning at 7 p.m. The first hour
of the meeting will be devoted to
public comment on any subject.
Starting at 8 p.m., the regular
Town calendar, including the
above-mentioned hearing, will be
called.
The Robert Plan Corporation,
the nation's premier servicer and
provider of auto insurance servi­ces
in the urban market,
announced today that it has
signed a $50 million deal to lease
two of Grumman's buildings. The
20-year $50 million lease of the
237,000-square-foot former
Grumman sites are the largest
commercial real estate transaction
on Long .island this year, accord­ing
to Jhe Rdbert Plan's broker
Edward S. Gordon Company.
The lease enables the company
to relocate its entire Lynbrook
operations, along with select
departments now in Uniondale.
Because the buildings are in good
condition, The Robert Plan is
expected to complete moving
more than 1,000 employees based
in Lynbrook and in Uniondale by
the end of the year. The company's
national headquarters will remain
in Uniondale, NY.
The buildings were selected by
The Robert Plan for several val­uable
features that are necessary
for future expansion:
* A well-trained local work force;
* Convenience to major long
Island arteries;
* Major renovations are
unnecessary;
* Ability to expand, with ade­quate
parking; and
* Cooperation of the Oyster Bay
town officials.
"While we received many other
offers nationwide, we are thrilled
to be expanding to Bethpage and
being able to stay and grow on
Long Island," said Robert Wallach,
President and CEO of The Robert
Plan. "We are proud of our growth
during the last few years and
believe the facility is well-suited to
future expansion."

servicing policyholders in ten

HERBST HOLDS BETHPAGE MEETING
As part of his constituent out­reach
program, state Assembly­man
Marc Herbst (R-C, Hicksville)
is holding a community meeting
for the convenience of area
residents.
On Tuesday, August 2, from 7:00
p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the assembly­man
will conduct a meeting at the
Little Theatre of Bethpage High
School, which is located on
Cherry Avenue in Bethpage.
"This event is part of an ongoing
program that will have meetings
at various sites in the 14th Assem­bly
District throughout the
summer months," said Herbst. "As
a first-term member of the Assem­bly,
I look forward to meeting with
my constituents and listening to
their ideas on how I can best
represent their needs."
During the meeting, Herbst said
that he will have a variety of
informative brochures available,
and will discuss issues of concern
and answer questions involving
state government.
"No appointment is necessary to
attend this event," said Herbst. "In
addition I would like to remind
individuals that they are always
welcome to visit or call my district
office for assistance."
