Bethpage's KEVIN HARRISON
was first in one-meter diving with
390.6 points and Bethpage's
Freshman, CHRIS AUSPACH
placed third with 260.85 points in
the Nassau County Public High
School Team Championship Div
ing Meet held at Jericho H.S. on
Feb. 16,1995.
This is the first time in the
history of H.S. one-meter diving
that a Bethpage student has won
the Nassau County Champion­ship.
Records have been recorded
every year since 1962.

10 Wrestlers from the high
school team qualified for the
Nassau County Championship
tournament. The tournament will
be held Sat & Sunday, Feb. 25 and
26 at Nassau Community College
The winners of this tournament
will represent Nassau County in
Syracuse the following week for
the N.Y. State Championships.
The Bethpage qualifers were:
Jason Koroneos at 91 lbs;
Anthony Riccardi at 98 lbs; Nikitas
Koroneos at 105; Troy Gorman
and Chris Vlasopoulos at 126;
Nathan Wallentin at 132; Sean
Severin at 138; John Roden at 155;
Gus Panagos at 215 and Peter
Marketos at 250.

S. Gulotta and Police Com­missioner
Donald F. Kane today
announced the implementation of
the Crime-Stoppers program in
Nassau County, at no cost to local
taxpayers. A special, toll-free
phone number...1-(800) 244-
TIPS...has been activated to take
anonymous calls regarding crimes
committed in the County.
"Recent statistics from both the
FBI and New York State demon­strate
that Nassau County con­tinues
to experience one of the
lowest crime rates in the entire
country," Gulotta said. "However,
no matter how low the crime rate
is, we still have a responsibility to
make every effort to solve all
unsolved crimes and bring every
criminal to justice. We are optim­istic
that Crime Stoppers will
provide an additional and useful
tool to our police in order to keep
our crime rate one of the lowest
in the nation."
Nassau County Crime Stoppers
is a community based program
that will involve the public, the
media and the police department
in a cooperative effort to solve
serious crimes. At the core of the
program is a guarantee of ano­nymity,
and cash rewards to those
who provide information which
leads to the arrest of felony offend­ers.
Gulotta and Kane both noted
that rewards will be given if calls
result in an arrest; it is not neces­sary
that a conviction occurs.
Commissioner Kane said,
"Crime Stoppers creates the
opportunity for citizens to become
involved in helping us solve
crimes, while retaining their ano­nymity.
Oi*r department has
always prided itself for our service
style of policing. This program will
further expand our ability to inte­ract
with the public in a very
positive fashion."
According to Kane, a special
Crime Stoppers Unit has been
formed in the police department,
and calls will be handled on a 24
hour/day basis to the special
dedicated phone number 1-800-
244-TIPS.

THE BAD:
Crime in the
Bethpage Area
LOCAL MERCHANT
ROBBED
Eighth Squad detectives are
investigating a robbery that
occurred in Bethpage at 11:15 PM
on 02/16/95.
According to detectives, a 21
year old many employed as a D.J.
at Unique Sounds, 407A Central
Ave., was unloading the com­pany's
Ford van when he was
approached by two male blacks in
their early twenties. One of the
subjects produced a silver hand­gun
and demanded the victim's
wallet. After taking the wallet, the
subjects forced the victim inside
the building and tied him up. The
subjects then took the keys to the
van, and the keys to the company's
other van also parked outside and
loaded with sound equipment. The
subjects drove away in the vans
in an E/B direction. One van is a
1984 Ford, the other is a 1986 Ford,
both white in color.
There were no reported injuries,
the investigation is continuing.
BETHPAGE ROBBERY
The 8th Squad reports the
details of the arrest of two people
in connection with a Bethpage
Robbery that occurred on 2/21/95
at 7:30 PM.
According to detective, the
subjects, identified as Melanie
Kramer, 25, and Nader Saleh, 27,.
charged with Robbery 2nd
.Degree.
It is alleged that he subjects
entered a business by the name
of Bubble Buddies located at 4288
Hicksville Rd. Kramer went into
the office and opened the cash
box. The victim, an 18 year old
female, tried to stop her from
taking the money. The subject
struggled with the victim, when
Saleh assisted Kramer in getting
away, they fled on foot N/B on
Hicksville Rd.
