YOUR OFFICIAL HOMETOWN NEWSPAPER
Serving Bethpage, Island Trees, Plainedge, Seaford, Old Bethpage & Plainview
VOL 28 NO. 22 JUNE 2-8, 1995 40 CENTS
The weather was certainly not
on Bethpage's side for this year's
Memorial Day Parade. Nonetheless
the residents of Bethpage
didn't let the inclement weather
dampen their spirits or commitment
to the Veterans of this town..
Broadway and Stewart Avenue
were impressively lined with spectators
who not only braved the
raindrops but cheered, waved and
saluted parade marchers. This
year's parade was larger than
expected with representatives
from almost every local organization,
senior group, school group,
sports group, church group and
Veterans group.
Unfortunately the rain made
picture taking along the parade
route next to impossible (if anyone
out there was able to get some
good shots please, please send
them in)although I can tell you that
it was a grand turnout.
The Memorial Service itself was
not able to be held outside and
took place in the skating rink at
the Bethpage Community Park.
The Memorial Day Parade Committee
should be commended for
the outstanding job they did in
switching gears due to the weather
and also for the amount of work
they did in organizing this event.
(A job that I might add, is very time
consuming).
This parade is such an important
tribute to our Veterans. It means
more than marchers and floats (by
the way the Bethpage Chamber of
Commerce float was wonderful,
thanks to the hard work and
generosity of Bill Nimmo). It is a
way for us all to make sure that
these brave men and women who
served and gave their lives for this
country will never be forgotten. It
is a way for the families who lost
relatives to feel in their hearts that
their deceased loved ones are
remembered and did not die in
vane. And above the Bethpage
Memorial Day parade should be a
reminder to us all as to the sacrifices
and patriotism on which
this country was built.
WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER!!
ANTI-GRAFFITI POSTER
CONTEST WINNERS
OYSTER BAY TOWN Councilman Leonard Kunzig (second from left)
presents awards to Mark Kirby (left) and David Compitello, first and
second place winners, respectively, in the grades 3 through 5 category
of the Town's Anti-Graffiti Logo Contest. Mark is a 4th grade student
at Central Boulevard School, Bethpage, and David is a 3rd grade
student at Kramer Lane School, Bethpage. Also on hand was Brad
Gaito, Principal of Central Boulevard School. The Contest, which was
spearheaded by Town Councilman Leonard B. Symons, was designed
to help raise awareness about graffiti and to develop an official Town
Anti-Graffiti Logo to be used on all correspondence and literature about
graffiti. It was open to all schools in the Town of Oyster Bay.
GOLD STAR MOTHER
HONORED
Gold Star Mother Mary Moesch of Bethpage was honord by the
Bethpage Memorial Day Committee on Memorial Day. Mrs. Moesch
was presented a bouquet of yellow flowers in memory of her son,
Richard Moesch, who was killed in the Korean War. We will never
forget his service.
