Friends of Bethpage Rotary:
Children International
Assists Gift of Life
On behalf of Legislator Edward Mangano (R-Bethpage, 17th L.D.),
Dan Carroll (second from left), president of Bethpage Rotary, recently
presented a citation to James R. Cook (third from left), President of
Children International in Kansas City, Missouri, in recognition of Children
International's furthering the goals of Bethpage Rotary's Gift of
Life program. To the far left is Tom Owens who handles CI's supplementary
programs, and to the far right is DebbieSpringwho works directly
with Dan Carroll on a child-by-child basis.
Children international is the link which brings Bethpage Rotary
children to our Long Island hospitals for open heart surgery. Rotary's
connection with Children International began in 1996 when Debbie
Spring showed how it was possible to "follow" children to their adult
lives, after providing them with life-saving surgery. Since that time, not
only has Children International helped the club with five open-heart patients,
but has also connected fourteen other needy children to sponsorship
by Bethpage Rotary members or sponsorship by friends of the
club.
