BETHPAGE HOMECOMING
The Bethpage School District
celebrated Homecoming on
Saturday, October 18. The day's
activities began with a spirited parade
and ended with another Golden
Eagles' victory.
The day's activities began with the
traditional parade of floats along
Stewart Avenue. The theme of this
year's floats were "Ship-Shape
Seniors"; "Jason and the Juniors"
(taken from the notorious slasher
from the Friday the 13>h series of
movies); "Surfin' Sophomores"; and
"Sporty Freshmen." The varsity
kickline created a float called "Pirates
of the Golden Caribbean." The junior
varsity kickline dressed up as
members of the Miss America
pageant.
At 2 pm. The defending Rutgers
Cup champion Golden Eagles
squared off against arch rival
Wantagh. The Golden Eagles have
not lost on their home field since
1987. Running back Rich Festante
led off the game with a rushing
touchdown, pushing off numerous
Wantagh defenders. Wantagh
countered with a touchdown later in
the game. The score remained tied
at 7 at halftime.
The Bethpage High School band,
the colorguard, and the varsity
kickline all performed at halftime. In
the second half, running back Derek
Ifasi broke the tie with a touchdown
run and the Golden Eagles won 14-7
to propel their record to 5-0.
PTAs from all of the Bethpage
schools were on hand, selling
Bethpage t-shirts, sweatshirts, roses,
pennants, and even Krispy Kreme
Donuts to raise funds for student
activities.
Bethpage Teachers
Making A Difference
On Sunday, October 19, the Bethpage Congress of
Teachers put on their sneakers and sweatshirts and braved the
cold and winds at Jones Beach, as they participated in "Making
Strides Against Breast Cancer." Bethpage should take great
pride in knowing how deeply the Bethpage Congress of
Teachers cares about finding a cure. Congratulations to the
entire gang for making a difference.
