Bethpage Water District
Honored By
New York State
Bethpage Water District was recently recognized by New York
State Senator Carl Marcellino (second from left) with a citation for its
victory in the 1999 Tap Water Taste-Off. Bethpage Water District
Commissioners (left to right) Bill Ellinger, Sal Greco, Jerry Donlon and
Superintendent Ronnie Krumholz joined in the celebration after being
crowned Long Island's best tasting tap water.
The annual competition, which was sponsored by the Long Island
Water Conference, served as the final "taste-off" between the Nassau
and Suffolk County winners from an earlier elimination round.
Bethpage Water District was judged to be the tastiest tap water on
Long Island by several local officials, including Marcellino, Nassau
County Legislator Edward Mangano and Suffolk County Legislator
Angie Carpenter.
"Although the Bethpage Water District takes home the title and
prestige, Long Islanders are the true winners. We are very fortunate to
have some of the best tap water in the nation," said Superintendent
Ronnie Krumholz.
The Long Island Water Conference, established in 1951, is a
professional organization dedicated to providing and maintaining a
pure and plentiful public water supply on Long Island. Members
include Nassau-Suffolk's public water suppliers, consulting engineers,
attorneys, water contractors and officials from governmental
regulatory agencies.
