GAINES BERLAND EXPERIENCES THE "CRASH"
OF BRETTON BOMBERS
Annual Bretton's Benefit Bowl Raises Over $40,000 For the Needy
Mother Nature surely was cooperating this past Sunday as
Bethpage hosted the 12th annual Bretton 's Bowl which helps raise
funds for those less fortunate in Bethpage during the holiday season.
The game began at 1:00pm at the Howie Vogt's Football Field at he
Bethpage High School and pitted Bretton's Deli against Gaines
Berland. This year ys game promises to be the most successful thanks
to many generous contributions from many local merchants as well
as corporate sponsors Gaines Berland and Cablevision. In fact Joan
Hendricks of Cablevision threw out the first bait to Quarterback Joe
Angelone and many said it could be the start of a whole new career
for her. Michelle Jerson sang\il^>; Natiotial\$nthem &$ qtily^she could
and members of the Boy Scout Troop 603 as well as VietkiiM^
Veterans of America presented the colors. Broadway Stage Door
provided half time entertainment and the BIGGEST THRILL of all
was when Santa himself received an escort to the field compliments
of our own Nassau County Police Department.
I can certainly tell you that the Bretton team was impressive and
looked a whole lot younger than in years past (right, Darlene?) They
inevitably caused the Gaines Berland CRASH (no pun intended)
when they came out early in the game with not only a strong offense
but also a defense that held Berland hostage most of the day. Their
BULLISH and determined spirit prevailed through the game and
found them victorious in the end. The real victors of this game
however, as we have said time and time again are all the families
right here in Bethpage that receive help thorough this effort. The
monies collected are from dedicated merchants and caring residents
of this wonderful town and each year they come out out in force to
make so many so much happier during the holidays. It is hard to
believe that right here in our town many people and children are
suffering do to many reasons. This game helps brighten the days of
those who have medical problems, cannot pay their rentj lost a job or
need warm clothing or food for their family. It is a game and a labor
of love and it is that love that makes this town the brightest star in
holiday sky!!!!!
AS always thanks should be given to Gary Bretton who founded
this game over a decade ago and is totally devoted and tireless when
it come to this benefit game as well as thanks to his PATIENT and
UNDERSTANDING wife Darlene who sacrifices so much to make
sure each year this game gets off the ground. And I would be remiss
if I did not mention a true backbone of the game Valerie Riccardello
who sells raffle ticket and even delivers cases of soda!
Special thanks goes out to the Gaines Berland crew and especially
Richard Rosenstock and Joe Angelone for their sincere help and
dedication to this game. They raised thousands of dollars just to
participate and the Bretton's team looks forward to a rematch next
year.. The community of Bethpage can TAKE STOCK in these two
teams competing with each other so that the ENITRE
COMMUNITY COMES OUT VICTORIUOSH!
The first ball gets thrown with a smile.
