Memorial Day Bethpage Style
Memorial Day 2000 was certainly
one that Bethpage should be proud
of, as hundreds of residents took to
the streets of Bethpage to pay tribute
to our Veterans.
Although the skies began with
many clouds and a look of rain, Mr.
Sunshine broke his way through to
provide beautiful weather for the
many local groups and organizations
that participated in this year's
parade. As always local dignitaries
and political officials began the
parade which included the Archie
McCord American Legion and
Ladies Auxiliary, VFWButehorn
Brothers, Mounted Police, Bethpage
Fire Department, Boy Scouts, Girl
Scouts, Bethpage Nursery School,
Central Blvd. Band, Charles
Campagne Band, Kramer Lane
Band, J.F.K. Band and Bethpage
High School Band. We saw our own
Golden Girls Kickline, Little Gospel
Lights Pre-School, Young at Heart,
Bethpage Fire Dept. Ladies
Auxiliary, Woman's Club, Golden
Age Club, Bethpage Senior Citizens
Club and Friendship Club. Also
marching was the Central Park
Historical Society, the Bethpage
Chamber of Commerce, the
Theodore Roosevelt Republican Club
and the Bethpage Tribune.
Representatives from many PAL
sports were there as well as children
and adults from the Bethpage
Baseball Association as well as a
beautiful display of antique cars. If
we left your group out it certainly is
not intentional it is just a difficult
task to remember all the wonderful
participants who made this year's
parade so extra special.
Now, this parade does not happen
magically. It takes a tremendous
amount of work and effort.
Volunteers who serve on the
Memorial Day Parade Committee
work tirelessly to insure that year
after year our Veterans are never
forgotten and that this parade is one
that is memorable and special. Once
again they have done a spectacular
job and all the Committee members
should be congratulated and receive
Gary Pappas, Frank Livoti, Nassau County Legislator Edward P. Mangano, American Legion Commander
Terry Ryan, Major Paul Gringsinger (Keynote Speaker), Kay Mazzie, Leonard Epstein and
Rob Cornicelli, all participated in this year's impressive service.

our thanks.
Memorial Day is so much more
than just BBQ's and picnics. It is a
day that we all should reflect on the
courageous Veterans who fought
long and hard for each and every one
of us. Their sacrifices have paved the
way for the freedom that we all enjoy
and their sacrifices are ones that
must and will never be forgotten.
These brave men and women are the
foundation and the building blocks of
our great Nation and their blood,
sweat and tears were shed so that we
all can proudly say we are
Americans.
Three cheers for the Memorial
Day Parade Committee for all their
hard work and we thank and
certainly appreciate all our Veterans
who gave of themselves for their
country. We also will never forget
those who gave their lives for their
country unselfishly as well as the
families and loved ones that they left
behind. WE WILL NEVER
FORGET OUR VETERANS!
