People Counseling Agency
Hosts Swim-a-thon
People Counseling Agency of
Bethpage recently held a three-hour
swim-a-thon to help raise money for
the services they provide to the
community. The agency continues to
struggle amidst the many financial
stressors, cuts, and anticipated
funding reductions that have been
levied on the agency. The swim-a-thon
was in the form of a three-hour
swim by the Executive Director of
People, Bryant Kaplan, where he
was pledged by the hour. He
survived his three-hour swim which
was performed on September 2nd,
2000 at the Bethpage Community
Park pool. Bryant stated that at
around 4C minutes into the swim, he
suffered a small panic attack as he
felt tired, bored and the prospect of
swimming another 2 hours and 2Q.„ ....
minutes, literally took his breath
away. However, he wasn't alone in
that there were people down there
who came to watch him swim back
and forth and back and forth etc... for
three hours and not complain how
bored they must have been. Many
thanks must be given to the financial
supporters. Bottom line is Mr.
Kaplan doesn't do these crazy things
without them. All the contributions
were very much appreciated.
However, there are some that
deserve special recognition: The
Farmingdale Rotary Club, Beth
Doyle, Frank Camerlengo from
Emil's Gardens, Cablevision of LI,
Assemblyman Marc Herbst, Ed
Minicozzi and Robbie Donno from
Rotary district 7250, Town
Supervisor John Venditto, Dennis
and Barbara Tommasulo, Luz
Rosenthal from the Bank of New
York, and Anthony Sabino. The final
totals for the event came out to be
that Bryant swam for $905 per hour.
If he can make that kind of money for
doing crazy things, just tell him what
crazy things you want him to do next
and he will be ready to go. The only
bad thing that came out of this event
was that for the next few days, it was
painful for him to scratch his head or
reach for something in the closet.

Director of People after completing his three hour, 4.67 mile swim to
help raise money.

The Nassau County Veterans
Monument Fund, Inc. builders of the
honored "Walls of Honor," will unveil
the first of the three major
monuments they intend to erect.
This huge monument will honor all
Prisoners of War and Missing in
Action of all wars. It is not a
memorial that honors only the dead.
It is a world class monument and
beacon of hope that all our
POW/MIAs, whether living or dead,
will be returned to our shores.
It will be unveiled during the
Meaning of POW/MIA Recognition Day Poster
- The somber black tones of the poster symbolize the darkness in our lives
from those taken from us...those who are missing.
- The black background with white border brings to mind the stark black
POW/MIA flag.
- In the upper left-hand corner is the missing American. This is our loved one,
our son, our father, our brother. He is not with us. He is missing. He is always
with us.
- The telegram symbolizes the link to the families of our missing...those who
have for so long...sought answers.
- The jet aircraft are flying the traditional "missing man" formation. Their
comrade is not with them.
- They know that someday, they will all be able to say "three's in."
- And the serviceman in the foreground symbolizes the soldier, sailor, airman
or Marine who wears the military uniform today.
- Our commitment to them is firm. Our nation's obligation to them is
steadfast.
- We will never forget their service, nor their sacrifice.
- And "LEST WE FORGET" is simply a reminder to all who love America, that
our loved ones will always be with us...our commitment to them will never be
forgotten.
