Packard Middle School Students
Raise Funds For The Red Cross Operation Downtown
Comes to Bethpage
To help those affected by the World Trade Center disaster,
members of Plainedge's Packard Middle School's Honor Society raised
over $4,300 in five days for the American Red Cross. Donations came
from students, staff and parents. HSBC Bank agreed to match the
funds collected, up to $3,000, raising the total donated to over $7,000.
Honor Society members, shown with Advisor Barbara Sklar, are

The Plainedge High School Student Council, led by advisors Keri
Widman and Stacey Hagofsky (shown left), held a car wash at John
West School on Sunday, September 16. The support from the
community was overwhelming. Students raised $3,371 which was
donated to the American Red Cross.
By now most residents have seen
\the construction, which is taking
place alone Broadway in Bethpage.
This construction is the first phase
of "Operation Downtown ". which is
a county funded project thai helps
communities like Bethpage revitalize
their downtown business districts
Legislator Edward Mangano
secured the funding for this
beautiflcation project, although
"Operation Powntown " is a result
of the dedication and cooperative
efforts of Nassau ( 'ountv and the
Bethpage ( ommunity ( ouncil,
Bethpage Historical Society and the
Bethpage ('hamber oj ( ommerce

new streetlights to match thi

even include new trees along the
sidewalks.
The project, which began this
week, is due to be completed before
the new vear barring weathei
delays. The construction is also
being done m smaller segments SO
as to not disrupt too much business
or cause loo much oj an
inconvenience during the
revitalization
