Nassau County Legislator
Edward P. Mangano (R-Bethpage)
was on hand to congratulate the
students and faculty of Bethpage
High School for winning the
prestigious Nassau County
Sportsmanship Award at a ceremony
held at the Knights of Columbus in
Bethpage on June 7th. The goal of
this award is to raise the
consciousness level of all athletes,
coaches, parents, spectators, and
students to promote good
sportsmanship at all Nassau County
sporting events. "I am proud to be
associated with such a fine school
district with outstanding students
and teachers, this is even more
fulfilling because the Golden Eagles
are the first recipients of this award,"
said Legislator Mangano.
The Sportsmanship Award is
based on points accumulated
throughout the year in varsity sports
that the high school participates in.
Points are given out by the referees
and umpires that officiate at the high
school sporting events. In winning,
the school received a Jade Crystal
that will be displayed in the school's
trophy case for all to see. 'This
award shows how caring parents,
teachers, and coaches can influence
a student's attitude towards the
opposing team. The whole town of
Bethpage should be proud that they
have turned out such a fine group of
scholar athletes," added Legislator
Mangano.
