Chamber of Commerce
FALL HARVEST FESTIV,
By Linda Mangano
Candy corn, corn stalks, mums,
Halloween and scarecrows are just
a few things that come to mind
when we think of the upcoming
Fall season. Well the Bethpage
Chamber of Commerce has
something else to add to that
list...theirfirst ever Chamber of
Commerce FALL HARVEST
FESTIVAL. This event is being
held on October 23 and 24 and is
making up for the lost days of their
Summer Festival which took place
in August.
This healthy Harvest of a
Festival will incorporate all the
same great rides that you are used
to in the summer but the Chamber
has certainly added a few treats
and tricks as well. The HARVEST
FESTIVAL will begin both days at
12 noon and will continue on to
7pm. On Saturday we are featuring
the entertainment of EXCALIBUR
DJ who certainly will have evety
ghost and scarecrow dancing to his
fabulous line-up of songs. In the
evening the FALL Bethpage skies
will light up with a BA Y
FIREWORKS show that is sure to
knock your socks. This fireworks
display will be in honor of Walter
Kuhl who tragically passed away
several months ago and was an
employee of Bay Fireworks.
Walter, year after year insured that
Bethpage's Fireworks display was
as spectacular as they have been. It
is the Chamber's honor to pay
tribute to such a special person. Of
course we will have midway games
and amusements as well as
fabulous food and Chamber vendor
booths.
On Sunday our FALL
FESTIVAL kicks into full swing
with some pretty interesting
contests for the entire family. The
Chamber is featuring their first
ever BETHPAGE BAKE-OFF.
Yes, that's right! A baking contest
in Bethpage. There will be three
categories, cakes and pies, breads
and cookies. Entry forms and rule
are printed in this issue of the
Tribune and are also available at
Emits's Garden Center and
Bretton 's Deli. Adults and children
alike are able to participate in this
contest and are asked to bring
their entries in disposable pans to
the Chamber booth at the Festival
by 11:00am on Sunday October 24.
Three prizes will be given out in
each category. First prize, $35,
second prize $25, and third prize
$15.
We will also be hosting a
JACK-O-LANTERN Decorating
Contest for children under 13. All
children need to do is purchase a
pumpkin. Emil's Garden Center is
offering a 10% discount on all
pumpkins purchased for this event,
although they can be purchased
anywhere or can also be home
grown. Then children are asked to
GET CREATIVE!! They can use
paint, glitter, felt, yarn or markers.
Pumpkins can be carved or not
carved and can be any size you
want. The Chamber askes that all
pumpkins be brought to the
Chamber booth to be logged in for
judging by 11:00am on Sunday,
October 24. There will be two
categories 6 and under and 13 and
under. Prizes will be given out in
each category to the top three
winners. $35 for first prize, $25 for
second prize and $15 for third
prize.
And last but not least the
Chamber is hoping that everyone
gets into the Fall and Halloween
OCTOBER 23 &24
I t
frame of mind with a BETHPAGE
CRAZIEST HAT CONTEST. This
contest is for children and adults
and is pretty simple. All you have
to do is wear the funniest, scariest
or weirdest hat you can dream up.
No registration is required and at
3:00pm on Sunday the Chamber
will have their CRAZY HAT
PARADE of stars past the judges
booth. Prizes will be given out in a
children's category and the adult
category! So start thinking!
On Sunday we will be treated to
the music of RADIO DAZE a
fabulous Bethpage Band who is so
unbelievably talented that you
won't believe your ears.
Once again the Chamber has to
thank their fabulous and generous
sponsors who help to fund this
Festival as well as their Summer
Festival. The Chamber thanks
Bethpage Federal Credit Union,
Cablevision, Northrop Grumman
Corporation, Chapey Funeral
Homes, Bank of New York,
Citibank, King Kullen, Bobby O's
Ices, Arthur White Funeral
Home, Fleet Bank and our newest
sponsor Commerce Bank.
Without the support of these
corporations the chamber would
not be able to host this fabulous
festival. We thank them sincerely
for all they do for Bethpage
residents, the Chamber of
Commence and the entire
community.
So mark your calendars
everyone and be a part of this
ghostly gala with a harvest of fun
for everyone!
