CHAMPIONS!!!
The 9 year old Bethpage all-star team successfully defended their title in the 4th of
July Plainviews Tournament. They out dueled three traditional powerhouses Merrick,
East Meadow and Plainview in stunning fashion. Great pitching, solid defense, and
timely hitting were on display all weekend.
PLAYOFF GAME 1 vs MERRICK (8-3)
John LaRocca started game 1 and pitched 4 effective innings. The Bethpage
offense got all the runs they would need in the 2nd inning. Paul Luzzi, Anthony
Degennero and Chris Vaglica led off the inning with 3 straight walks to load the bases.
AnthonySalemi and Anthony Sforza were each hit by pitches to score two runs. One
out later, Anthony Micchiche and Brian Seiter walked to drive in 2 more runs. Sam
Einbinder then followed with a double to make the score 7-0. Jake Vera came in relief
and pitched 2 scoreless innings. Final score 8-3.
SEMI-FINAL GAME vs EAST MEADOW (1-0)
Thomas Galgano got the start in the semi-final game and was brilliant. He pitched
5 scoreless innings of one-hit ball while striking out 7 batters. Sam Einbinder pitched
a scoreless 6th for the save. The second inning proved pivotal for Bethpage once
again. LaRocca led off with a walk and stole second and third. Luzzi stepped up to the
plate with one out and drove in the lone run of the game. Great defensive plays by
Bethpage helped to secure the win. In the 5th inning Jake Vera gunned down a runner
trying to steal 3rd base. In the 6th inning East Meadow had the tying run on second
base with 2 out. Playing 1st base, Galgano dove to his right to snare a line drive and
send Bethpage into the championship game. Final score 1-0.
CHAMPIONSHIP GAME vs PLAINVIEW (5-3)
Bethpage and Plainview played 9 innings before the championship could be decided.
Each team battled back from deficits with Bethpage finally prevailing. Sam
Einbinder got the start and pitched 5 and 1/3 innings of two hit ball. He was very economical
with his pitches and was aided by great infield defense. Bethpage took a 1-0
lead in the third inning. Micchiche led off with a single and came around to score on a
double by Galgano. Hanging on to a slim 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 5th, Bethpage
has victimized on a blown call at first by the umps and Plainview took a 3-1 lead.
Down 3-1 in the last inning, Bethpage staged a one out rally to tie the game. With one
out Einbinder drew his third walk of the game.LaRocca and Galgano follows with
walks to load the bases. Clean-up hitter Vera got plunked to make it a one run game.
Seiter then stepped up to the plate and hit a bullet into centerfield to tie the gams.

the game into extra innings. Anthony DeGennero got on base to start the 7th inning
for Bethpage. With one out he stole second base and third base. Danny Biesty drew a
walk with two out to put run.iers on the corners. Nick Marotta then hit a rope that ate
up the third basemen to score the go ahead run. After a walk to Micchiche loaded the
