Responds To Plainview House Fire
Bank Robbery in Bethpage
On July 9, 2008 the Bethpage Fire Department was called by the Plainview
Fire Department to the scene of a house fire on Winters Court in Plainview.
Bethpage Ladder Co#3 responded and assisted the Plainview Fire
Department. An elderly man was killed in the fire. Five fire departments
were called in to help battle the blaze. (Photos by Kevin Imm)
Robbery Squad detectives are investigating a bank robbery that occurred on
Friday, July 11, 2008 at Commerce Bank at 5:20pm in Bethpage.
According to detectives, a male, white, 5'10", approximately 20-30 years
old, unshaven, wearing a dark baseball cap, sunglasses, fleece jacket and black
gloves entered the Commerce Bank located at 145 Stewart Avenue. The subject
approached the teller and produced a demand note. The teller complied and
gave an undetermined amount of currency. The suspect fled on foot southbound
on Stewart Avenue in Bethpage. The bank had twelve employees and one customer
present at the time of the robbery. No injuries were reported.
Bethpage Water Moves to the
Finals in Taste Competition
Five communities competed in the 2008 Regional Water Taste Contest to
determine the bet drinking water in the Metropolitan Region on thursday July
10, at the American Museum of Natural History at Central Park West and 79th
Street, New York City, N.Y. The top districts in this and four other regional contests
held around the state will compete for the crown at the New York State Fair
on August 26th, 2008.
This is the 22nd annual contest. This popular, non-scientific competition
stresses the importance of clean, safe and healthy drinking water. It is sponsored
by the New York Section American Water Work Association and supported by
the New York State Departments of Health and Environmental Conservation.
At this contest, the public participated in a blind taste test featuring liquid
refreshment from the following water suppliers.
Bethpage Water District, Nassau County
New York City, Manhattan
Town of New Windsor, Orange County
Dix Hills Wafer District, Suffolk County
Croton-on-1 1son, Westchester County ^
Each of the above contestant ;pt New york City) has won the taste contest
