personal dictionary. The club's Vocational Service Director George P. Hannau
presented the generously donated dictionaries to students at Central
Boulevard, Charles Campagne, and Kramer Lane Elementary Schools. Each
dictionary was personalized with an imprinted bookplate displaying the student's
name and the Rotary Club's "4-Way Test."
"The goal of this program is to help students further develop strong
vocabularies, grow confidently into accomplished readers, and become skillful
writers," remarked Mr. Hannau. "This book is an indispensable tool for
our students. We are grateful for the opportunity to present them to the students
of Bethpage."
Bethpage High School Brings Down the
House to Help the Homeless
Energy and entertainment were definitely present at this year's Bethpage High
School Student Civic Association Talent Show. Bethpage students, staff, and celebrity
guest judges joined together to once again raise funds for a worthy cause. The recipients
of this year's show's proceeds were presented to Bethany House, Long Island, a
shelter for homeless mothers and their children.
Keeping the evening moving along were student M.C.s Zack Levy & Andrew Beck,
joined by WBAB's radio personality "Rocky." Prize raffles were drawn and awarded
between student acts to help raise funds for the charity. By the end of the night, the
Student Civic Association raised more then $2,000 for Bethany House, Long Island
between ticket and raffle sales.
Among this year's distinguished panel of judges included former N.Y. Jets John
Nitti and Ken Schroy, Film and television actress and comedienne Jennifer Johnson and
Bethany House's P.R. Director Devorah Krupar. Students were judged on their creativity,
presentation, and performance. This year's first place winner was Desi Dhamaka
(Indian Explosion), a choreographed Indian modem remix dance act. The group's
dancers are Sonia Daniel, Kusum Dansinghani, Anisha Jacob, Payal Patel, and Sippy
Punn. Placing second was James Cafiero with his adaptation of Billy Joel's Piano Man
and singing her way to third place was Claire Murphy with Only Hope. The night was a
great success in showcasing the talents of the students, in addition to raising awareness
and much needed funds for Bethany House and Long Island families in need.
