The Bethpage School District welcomed students back for classes on
Wednesday, September 3. The 2008/09 school year marks the first year the
District is providing a Full-Day Kindergarten program, after the community
approved the initiative in the Spring 2007.
Each of the District's three elementary schools, Charles Campagne
Elementary School, Central Boulevard Elementary School, and Kramer Lane
Elementary School conducted ribbon-cutting ceremonies to officially dedicate
the new classroom space created to accommodate the program. Board of
Education members joined District administrators and representatives from
School Construction Associates, the construction management firm that oversaw
the project, in cutting the ribbon on the new areas.
More than 90% of school districts in New York State provide a Full-Day
Kindergarten program. The Bethpage program provides more than twice the
amount of core instructional time than previously offered. Studies show that
students who are exposed to a full-day program exhibit a greater propensity
toward independent learning, classroom involvement, and productivity.
