It seems Santa was making this rounds in Bethpage this past Saturday thanks to
all of tlie dedicated members of the Bethpage Fire Department. Look inside for

Selected As
2009 Grand Marshal of
St. Patrick's Day Parade
The Bethpage St. Patrick s Parade Committee has selected John
Eastwood, a forty year resident of Bethpage, to be the 2009 Grand Marshal.
John is well- known throughout the Bethpage community for his involvement
in many activities, his broad smile and generous spirit. While employed with
an international sales company, John found time to coach soccer for 10
years and serve as a board member on Bethpage s jledgling soccer league -
the CYO Soccer Club, currently a much larger club known as the Bethpage
Soccer Club.
After retiring from international sales, John opened the Bethpage Sports
Center, a store noted for quality merchandise and a very friendly owner who
always had time to talk with budding athletes, offering advice and inspira-tion.
John is a member of the Bethpage Historical Society, Civic Association,
Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, Catholic War Veterans, Knights of
Columbus, LI Big Apple Volleyball Association and St. Martin of Tours
Bowling League and the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee. At Christmas,
you will find John at the entrance to King Kullen ringing the bell on behalf
of the Salvation Army and PAL.
In addition to his community activities, John has always been an active
member of St. Martin of Tours Church. Presently he is serving his 3rd year
on the Pastoral Council and during the years has served on the Welcoming
Committee, Pre- Cana Ministry, Ushers Society, Respect Life Ministry and
Holy Name Society.
Currently, John is the Advertising Manager for the Bethpage Tribune
and membership Chairman for the Chamber of Commerce.
John and Anne, his wife of 44 years, have two daughters, Karen Fikar
( Ernie) and Kathy They h^ tw two grandchildren, Jake and Julia.
The son of an English Ji ir and Irish mother ( nee Finne^ jut) John grew
up in an Irish section of Queens and considers himself Irish especially on
St. Patrick's Day
