Bethpage Welcomes New Signs on Stewart Ave.
The community of Bethpage has tragically been forced to deal with many lives lost in motor vehicle accidents on Stewart Avenue. After many requests and
a lengthy battle, last year the community was able to get a traffic light installed on the corner of Beverly and Stewart Avenue in the hopes that the traffic light
would force drivers to slow down on a roadway, which has been known for excessive speeding. Now we are doing even more. Legislator Edward Mangano
reports that he has won approval for the installation of FIVE PERMANENT speed detector signs to be placed on Stewart Avenue. The signs provide a large digital
readout of a drivers' speeds as they approach the signs. These signs will be strategically placed and will be seen as drivers approach the Bethpage High
School and Plainedge Middle School zones. The signs are similar to the mobile police operated speed radar signs that have been intermittently located at the
school zones. Statistics in regards to the effectiveness of these signs show that the signs have succeeded in slowing drivers down. "If these signs save one life by
reminding drivers to slow down, then as a community we have done our job." stated Mangano.
As soon as the weather permits, the foundations for these signs will be poured and the actual sings will be installed thirty days later.
A FRIENDLY REMINDER FROM THE BETHPAGE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Although our junior members have been effectively cleaning up the streets in our downtown area during the past 2 weeks we remind
MERCHANTS that it is YOUR responsibility to keep the front of your stores clean. PLEASE, in the morning when you open your doors take a momt it and
sweep the front of your business. IT IS AN INVESTMENT IN YOUR COMMUNITY AND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!
Working together we can make Bethpage a cleaner and better place to live, work and SHOP.
