HOME SWEET HOME-COMING
#22: Joseph Loria celebrates after crossing the goal line in the second quarter, giving Bethpage a 14-0 lead.
The Bethpage School District community celebrated
Homecoming 2007 with a parade down Stewart
Avenue and yet another triumph by the Golden Eagles
Varsity Football team. The team prevailed over
Lynbrook by a score of 28-7, enabling the team to
maintain their hold on first place in Conference III
with a 5-0 record.
The Golden Eagles were Jed by the rushing of
Derek Buondelmonte (96 yards, 1 touchdown), Kevin
Glueckert (67 yards), Joe Loria (2 touchdowns), Shane
McGuigan (1 touchdown) and Quarterback Greg
Miller (2-point conversion). Kevin also finished with
two receptions for 61 yards and combined with Phil
Luongo for 23 tackles on defense. Bethpage never
trailed in the game, but only led 14-7 at halftime
before scoring touchdowns in the third and fourth
quarters to put the game away. The Eagle defense shut
out Lynbrook in the second half.
Prior to the game, the annual Homecoming Parade
was held, beginning at the Waldbaum's Shopping
Center and culminating at Bethpage High School.
Students marched down Stewart Avenue carrying banners
they created to describe each class' theme, from
the Class of 2008's "Safari Seniors" to the Class of
201 l's "Fly Freshmen." There were also the "Celebrity
Sophomores" and the "Junior Jets," equipped with
their own Jets mobile.
The Bethpage High School, Band, Kickline, and
Cheerleaders also participated in the celebration, performing
for the community at halftime. PTA organizations
sold spirited Bethpage school items to raise
funds. Clare Murphy sang the Star Spangled Banner.
The Homecoming advisor was teacher Wendy Way.

Regarding
Water Safety
What Happened and
Is Our Water Safe?
As the Tribune goes to press, we assume
that all Bethpage residents, who obtain their
water from the Bethpage Water District,
received a letter pertaining to a recent problem
which occurred with the Plant 6 water
treatment system. This is an important letter,
sent to residents from the Bethpage Water
District, that all residents should read carefully.
The Bethpage Water District encourages
residents to share this information with those
who drink this water. Therefore, the Tribune
decided to reprint the letter as a way of making
sure that all residents are informed about
this now corrected problem.
Dear Customer of the Bethpage Water
District,
The Bethpage Water District, in cooperation
with the Nassau County Department of
Health, strives to protect the public health
and provide you with the highest quality of
drinking water. In this endeavor, we are committed
to notifying you of any issue which
could affect or could have affected your
drinking water quality. As such, please be
informed that our water system has had a
recent violation of drinking water standard.
At approximately 9:30 AM on September
17, 2007, the Bethpage water district, during
a routine plant inspection, found that the
water treatment system at Plant 6 was not
working properly. The purpose of the treatment
system at this site is for the removal of
volatile organic contaminants, which includes
trichloroethene. Upon discovering the malfunction,
the plant was immediately shut
down. The District had its employees immediately
begin flushing the distribution system
which provides water to the public starting
from initial notification through the evening
of September 17 to remove any residual
trichloroethene from the system. The District
collected a total of 41 samples from the distribution
system. The samples showed
trichloroethene concentrations in a range
from no detection to 57.7 micrograms per
liter (ug/1), which exceeds the New York
State drinking water standard (MCL) of 5.0
ug/l. A microgram per liter (ug/1) is equivalent
to one (Continued on page 9)
