their own ideas. -
While Mrs. Homan was out dur-ing
the morning a group of Metho-dists
arrived carrying several con-tributions
appropriate to the occa-sion.
They presented a bouquet
to the couple, which on being
opened was found to have 60
streamers attached with a dollar
bill at the end of each. Other gifts
included a huge wedding cake.
In the party were the Rev. and
Mrs. C. Newman Hogle, Mr. and
Mrs. John W. Southard. Mrs.
Joseph Gray, president of the
Women's Society of Christian Serv-ice,
and Mrs. Frederick Richards.
Numerous other friends dropped in
X) congratulate the couple during
Mr. Homan was fond of drawing
and about 40 years ago he became
a registered architect having taught
himself that vocation. He has de-signed
numerous homes and places
of business here. He also had
charge of the remodeling of the
Methodist Church several years

few months, Mr. Homah as a car-penter,
but shortly afterward they
neceived a letter from Mrs. Ho-man's
aunt, Mrs. John J. Randall,
advising them that if they would-return
to Freeport, he would DC,
given a steady job for the winter:

Randall had just started his first
development here, north of the
railroad tracks, and it was here
where Mr. Homan went to work.
Confederate prisons. .As a boy of
J2 or 14, Mr. Homan; sailed {fre-quently
with his fatliejr. . .
Mr. Homan's hobby during m;any
years was the carving of sailing
vessels of which he still retains a
considerable collection.^ Mrs. Ho-man
has been active in the Free-port
Red Cross Branc^, the Free-port.

Freeport to Sponsor
Battalion Tourney
The Freeport Fire Department is
to sponsor the annual tournament
of the Second Battalion District,
on Sunday, Sept._ 7. Decision to
be host for the event was voted
at a Council meeting of the de-partment.
Besides .Freeport, the.district in-cludes
Baldwin, Oceanside, Island
Park, .Point Lookout and Long
Beach.
Chief Fred Buss has turned the
arrangements over to Second Depu^.

Events will get under way at 1
P.M. in Roosevelt ave.. between

There Will be six events, as fol-ows:

running -hook- and ladders-running,
hose, efficiency and efficiency re-placement.
A grandstand will be erected, and
there will be two refreshment
booths.

Raymond Barbutti, former Olym-pic
star and at one time a local
resident, spoke to the members of
the Exchange Club of -Freeport yes-terday
at their weekly luncheon in
the Woodcleft Restaurant.

Mr. Homan, whose ancestors
came here in Colonial days, was
born in Yaphank, on June 4, 1863,
and his wife, who was bom Nov
26, 1868, in New York, a daughter
of Dr. Thomas Thomson and the
former Mary A. Brown, located
there ten years later with her par-ents.
Mr. Homaa'fl father, was
Capt. Richard s. Homan and his
monies.
The program will feature the
playing of Lombardo hits of the
past on which he will comment as
they go on the air.
During the program, Mr. Lom-bardo
will be Interviewed by Bob
Stirrat, sports editor of the Nassau
Daily Review-Star, concerning the
Gold Cup regatta in Rockaway In-let
on Sunday. Aug. 10. at which
he will defend the trophy he won
off Detroit last August with his
speedboat. Tempo VI.
