Pope Pius X died at the Vatican in Rome early Thursday morning. Grief over the war in Europe caused Ihe Pope much depression, and several days ago symptoms appeared of the old bronchial affection from which the Pope had suffered in times past. The condition rapidly [became serious and the end came early Thursday morning. POPE'S SUCCESSOR On the tenth day after the death of the Pope the secret conclave of the Sacred College of Cardinal!, which selects his successor, will liegin in the palace of the Vatican.
This lapse of time permits the Car¬ dinals from all over the world to as¬ semble in Rome. There are sixty- three prelates who have the right to take part in the choice ofthe Pontiff— five Cardinal Bishops, fifty-four Car¬ dinal Priests and four Cardinal Dea¬ cons.
