Thieves At De Kruijff's
An old pair of tan shoes, several half ; burned candles and three much mussed up beds, tells the atory of a protracted j visit of thieves to the home of Mrs. 'Theodore E. De Kruijff, 92 Lexington I Avenue, F>eeporr, during her absence j in the city laat winter. She returned on Wednetday with her two daughters ; to open her home for the aeason, and ' was much surprised to find it ran- I sacked.
! It is apparent from the condition of the house that the thieves enjoyed undiaturbed posseesion of the house for aome time, fhe shades were all drawn and cigar and cigarette buta were strewn carelessly about on the floor. In the sleeping apartments the beds were disturbed
Before taking leave of the house, the burglars evidently made a thor¬ ough fieanh for v:tluables F"ortun»te- ly for the De Kruijff's, however, ail- verware and cut glass nad been taken to the city when the house waa closed last fall Among the misning artcles were several suits of clothea, a shot gun and other articles of les.ier value. The condition of the house was sufficient to affirm Mrs. De Kruijff's suspicion that a search had been made for ber valuable silver, cut glaaa and bric-a-brac. The beds show unmistaka¬ ble evidence of having been slept in and the tan shoes were carefally placed under one of tbem.
The Freeport police were notified but no deiinite .jiue haa been found. There was na e\ i.itnce of a forced entrance. It is believed that a skeleton key wm, u*«d to unlock tbe front door.- -Poat.
