Fire Drill
Chief Cozzeiis i-alled the tire dej)art- ment out for a drill Saturday night. Somehow his intentions leaked out and a number of the firemen were at the tire houses when the whistle sounded. The "bla;;e" was in the block on Railroad Avenue, facing the depot, where hose was laid, ladders raised, etc., after which the C'hief ad¬ dressed the department; he said he had called them out to find what condition they were in, and that a number of things were needed which he would see about getting ; that there seemed to l>e a lack of interest in the depart¬ ment which should be overcome, and all work together for the good of the force. At the close <)f his speech an excitiiig race occured between the Vig¬ ilant Hose Co. an<l Excelsior Hook and Ladder Co., o|iinions varying ;is to V, hich op.i- won.
