At a dinner given on Friday evening to the newly elected officers at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, New Vork City, the chairman announced that the Clab had availed itself of an option from Hugo Stearns to purchase what ia considered a most beautifu'ly devel¬ oped golf and country club, situated •t Freeport-Baldwin, with al! new buiiding-* such as club house, green keeper's residence, professional's ahop, caddie's houae, etc., tennis courts, handball courts and practice holes. Tbe purchase ia said to be $250,000.
The formal opening of the golf links will take place some time in May. Tbe memberahip lists counts upward

We are compelled to smile at the sug gestion of philanthropic intereat.

And they as ready and interested partiea are break¬ ing over the traditionaof our commun¬ ities, and tiampling upon the convic- tiona of the large class of citizena who give strength and dignity and charac¬ ter to o^r State.
For this the church does not feel called upon to aland. She proteats and she proposes to fight. The courts of'the State are swinging into line and the Legislature, we pray, may stand true to the laws handed down by fath¬ ers, which if enacted on different

On Sunday evening, January I, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Downs of South Side Avenue celebrated the 26th anniver¬ sary of their wedding with a ainner at the Cryatal Lake House.
