The Brooklyn Times devoted a page | last Saturday night to a well written sketch of Freeport, giving a sketch of its growth and improvement along all lines. This waa worked up by Lyman W. Taft, the local representative of the Times.
Our correspondent left out from the list of officers of the Hoyal Arcanum Chaa. H. Reach, organist. This was an important uffice in this particular case, as an organization which is able to secure Mr. Reach's service has an added inducement for its members to attend meetings.

Opening a manhole to get at the gas ' main of the Nassau & Suffolk Gas Company, in Main street Monday morning and descending into it without ^ waiting for the gas that had accumu¬ lated in the hole to escape, nearly re¬ sulted in the death of William Sackner and hi« helper, J. McShane, both | Brooklyn men. Tha men were dragged < from the man-hole in an unconscious I condition, but were quickly resuscitated i by physicians who were called.

Friday afternoon the Freeport Fire Department had a new call, 62, for a blaze at Sackman's on Pine street.
The firemen responded quickly but when they arrived they found the barn on the premises all ablaze. They soon had two streams of water on the burn¬ ing structure and put out the blaze, with the building about half destroyed.
The property is occupied by Charles Sackman and family, but no one in the house knew of the blaze until a pass¬ erby called their attention to it. The damage was estimated at about $350. Ilie orgin of the fire ia unknown.

The Board of Education at a meeling i held Monday night, decided to name ' the Archer Street school. School No. 3, the Lincoln School. The schools will close at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon for the Christmas! holidays and will re open on Wednes¬ day, January 4. j On account of Complaints about! throwing snowballs at the Grove Street I School, an ofiicer was stationed! there to keep the boys under reasonable ' restrictions. The at- ; tendance of all the members is desired. ] I The Brooklyn Times devoted a page last Saturday night to a well written sketch of Freeport, giving a sketch of its growth and improvement along all lines. This waa worked up by Lyman W. Taft, the local representative of the Times. Our correspondent left out from the list of officers of the Hoyal Arcanum Chaa. H. Reach, organist. This was an important uffice in this particular case, as an organization which is able to secure Mr. Reach's service has an added inducement for its members to attend meetings. Opening a manhole to get at the gas ' main of the Nassau & Suffolk Gas Company, in Main street Monday morning and descending into it without ^ waiting for the gas that had accumu¬ lated in the hole to escape, nearly re¬ sulted in the death of William Sackner and hi« helper, J. McShane, both Brooklyn men. Tha men were dragged < from the man-hole in an unconscious I condition, but were quickly resuscitated i by physicians who were called.
