Firemen's Memorial Services Held
Despite Fire
When a general alarm eammoned tbe entire Are department to South Main Street and Atlantic Avenue Sun¬ day evening at 6:65. it was feared that the annual memorial servicea of tho departmeat, arranged for 7:30 the same evening at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Charch, would have to be omitted, especially aa the responding companies saw the sky aglow before them BR they answered the alarm. Although the firemen were delayed, Chaplain Karkau, pastor of that church, kindly delayed the aervieeB, so that when thoae of tbe firemen who coald finish tbeir work and attend tbe servicea, arrived a quarter hour after the scheduled time, the services were started.
Only about twenty members attend¬ ed, but many who would have been present were unable to attend. The Chaplain gave an intereating address, taking for his text "Quit You Like Men."
Five active and ex-members of the department had answered final roll call during tbe preceding year, making the total list of the department forty-nine. Irving Elliaon of Hose 1 was the only active member on the liat.
