Misses Edna Eldridge and Florence Miller entertained the "In and Out" Club last Tnursday, when they chart¬ ered a boat and took the club for an all day outing, and a very inviting lunch was served by the hostesses. Evgryone voted it a dandy time,
David H. Brown, jr., has moved from Roosevelt to corner of Bayview and Randall Aves.,_ this village. .Mr. Brown is at present building two houses in Hnosevelton speculation, and is also coin|iluting a residence for Henry Kalb on the High Grade Realty Company property, of which Wm. P. Jones of this village is the active promoter,
Friday afternoon Miss Nina Hum¬ phrey and Mrs. J. A. Sutphin gave .Miss .Mollie Pitcher a linen shower at the home of Miss Humphrey. A social hnur was passed with games and then Miss Humphrey brought in a large bas¬ ket covered with pink crepe paper with pink ribbons and cards hanging all around it. She said there was a favor for all. Each one touk her card and pulled and everyone got a handkerchief while .Miss Pitcher pulled the basket. She received some lovely things.
The Nrtssnu & Suffolk Lighting t'oni- any has completed its wnrk of piping the northwest section of the village, in response to the reiiuest of residents of that section. Mrs. James E. Abbott for herself and other interested prop¬ erty owners brought the matter to the Village Board and the gas company as¬ sured them they would lay the pipes this spring and as promptly as possi¬ ble. The petitioners were not satis fied with the progress made and ap¬ pealed to the Public Service Commis¬ sion. Whether or not this hurried the niatter, the pipes are now laid, the peo¬ ple are getting their gas and the gas company is getting the revenue.

Following a fire which destroyed a small shack on his property on Merrick Koad just east of this village, Moses Jarvis found thc charred body of Charles Johnson, 34 years old, an em¬ ployee on the place,
Johnson lived in the shack that burned and returned home late on Sat¬ urday night. Fire broke out in the cottage about 2 o'clock, but it did not awaken Jarvis or the other employes at the farm. The shack burned to the ground.
When Jarvis found the body early the next morning it was facing forward near the door. Both arms and legs were burned off and the body was a charred mags.
Acting Coroner Corodon Norton and Constable Murray viewed the remains and a permit was issued for removal.
Have you boosted Freeport this V eek'.' Our town is home sweet home, and there is nothing too good for Free- port.
The man who had such a swearing time because he was held up in his auto to allow the lire apparatus to have the right of way, might thank his lucky stars that he was not driving at Kiverhead where Justice Hildred sent¬ enced a man to pay a fine of .*25 and to spend '-W days in jail for driving his auto over the fire hose while the lire- men were at work. The jail sentence was suspended with a promise that it would not be if the offense was re¬ peated, 1
We must have better service from the trolley company. There is not room on iviain Street for a trolley switch or a double line, and we need
fome way of the tr
passing.
What do my readers think of asking the trolley company to lay a track down Church Street from the railroad track to the "New Boulevard" and then crossfng over to .Main Street. There would be plenty o. roo.n there and a good place for the cars to stop and we would be able to have cars un¬ der 15 minutes headway instead of 30 as at present. We respectfully sug¬ gest this to the Executive Committee of the Board of Trade or the Improve¬ ment Society, Somethi.ig ought to I.e done at once,
Tho matter of engaging a dng catcher in the village is being con¬ sidered. As usual this will probably be properly announced, so that all wlm wish can Keep their dogs home while the dog catchers are around.
Our Village Board is giving con siderable time and attention to the matter nf building the rnails under our .¦?.")i),(iOii bond issued. They arc as yet undecided how to get the most for the money, wheher by having the wnrk done by local people, or giving it out in one contract. Some members think il would be bettnr to give local lmh- tractnrs the preferenci. even if it dii\ cost slightly more, while others' tlii:,k that It would he better to advertise for the complete work, as this would prnb- ably mean a iiuicker job. The que.-- tinn will probably be settled at a spe¬ cial meeting this evening,
I cannot agree with Bro, Flugrath of the South Side Signal when ho says:
"A suggestion to the otlicers of the several fire departments in Babylon Town, Send the names of all of your members exempt from jury duty to the Board of Assessors, so tho latter can make out a proper list of jurymen tn submit to the County Clerk and Board of Supervisors. It will .save a lot nf trouble later, and prevent a repetition of the Court's rebuke of last Fall."
This comment would seem to infer that all firemen rely on the fact of their being such to exempt thom fmin jury duty, which is not in accord with the facts.
I thought press committees in tlie Nassau County Firemen's Association were a humbug, when men who were newspaper men but not firemen were appointed on the committee, but they go us one better in ."Suffolk County and show their disregard of all precedence by appointing as chairman of their committee a man in the feed business.
I have been asked if there is no way to hurry the fixing of .Main Stieet, in front of Harms' building, before enough people get hurt there to bank¬ rupt the village on damage suits. The Board at its last meeting passed a reso¬ lution that tne work must be done within ten days, or the village would do it and assess it to the property. According to my figures this time will expire on the 18th. next Tues.iay, and 1 honestly expect on Wednesday morning to see the con¬ tractors of the village engaged in making repairs ordered in front of the Harms' building, and other places on iMaitv Street.

P. Jones of this village is the active promoter, Friday afternoon Miss Nina Hum¬ phrey and Mrs. J. W. P. W. Haff, the largest coal dealer on Long Island. The cheapest place to buy coal. Exclusive dealer in ¦ome of the best grades of coal. It Following a fire which destroyed a small shack on his property on Merrick Koad just east of this village, Moses Jarvis found thc charred body of Charles Johnson, 34 years old, an em¬ ployee on the place, Johnson lived in the shack that burned and returned home late on Sat¬ urday night. The jail sentence was suspended with a promise that it would not be if the offense was re¬ peated, 1 We must have better service from the trolley company. There is not room on iviain Street for a trolley switch or a double line, and we need fome way of the tr passing. We respectfully sug¬ gest this to the Executive Committee of the Board of Trade or the Improve¬ ment Society, Somethi.ig ought to I.e done at once, Tho matter of engaging a dng catcher in the village is being con¬ sidered. The que.-- tinn will probably be settled at a spe¬ cial meeting this evening, I cannot agree with Bro, Flugrath of the South Side Signal when ho says: "A suggestion to the otlicers of the several fire departments in Babylon Town, Send the names of all of your members exempt from jury duty to the Board of Assessors, so tho latter can make out a proper list of jurymen tn submit to the County Clerk and Board of Supervisors. It will .save a lot nf trouble later, and prevent a repetition of the Court's rebuke of last Fall." This comment would seem to infer that all firemen rely on the fact of their being such to exempt thom fmin jury duty, which is not in accord with the facts.
