Ferry to Run Summer
Sdiedule in September
The Qreat South Bay Ferry Com¬ pany has announced that it will run the Summer schedule for September between Freeport and Point Lookout.
The Long Beach schedule will cease after the 10th of September.
The reason the Ferry Company is running boats in September is based upon its experience of last year when it carried more than 10,000 people in that month, as a great number of people realize that it is the most beau¬ tiful time of the year at the heach in September.
It is ill September that tiara bakes and corn roasts beconie popular on the ocean front and to meet this large demand ail the big boats will operate during September and all the i)oats wiH operate between these pointis on Saturdays ajid Sundays.
Special arrangements have been made to take care of children on Sait- urdaye and Sundays.
One of the things that have been noticeaJble in the management of tbe Ferry Company this yeor is the lack of crowding and the regularity of the boats. Much praise is iilue Captain Stevens, the captvin of tbe fleet, who has had tbe entire management of the operation of the boats. There has only been three bad delays tm the en-, tire route dnring the summer and only one day a boat failed to make ' a scheduled trip and that wa.s between Long Beach and Point Lookout, due to a broken pump.
The Ferry Company h«s made plans for handling Labor Day crowds and is arranging for extra boats so that tke schedule, if the weather is good, will operate on a fifteen minute schedule. The Long Beach boats will run direct through to Long Beacb stopping at Point Lookout and Nassau-by-the- Sea.
Special schedule ?or Saturday, Sun¬ day and Labor Day will be the regu¬ lar Sunday schedule running every half hour. The Long Beach boat wW leave Freeport dock for Long Beach at 11 a. m., 2 p. m. and 4:00 p. m., returning from Long Beach at 12:1,6 m, 3:15 p. m. and 6 p. m.

'' ' "" The work was interesting. One lit¬
tle miss asked for permission to help. She was a stranger to thc committee, but secured someone to vouch for her and was sent out. .At half past nine that night she had turned in ?9.74. She figured -she needed 26 cents more to make an even $10 "for the soldiers" so she asked permission to go out again, and in a half hour came back with enough to make her total $10.58. She then said she was tired enough to go to bed and said good night lo us. .Some of the women were out from six in the momiug till late at night, and some coukl not give so much time, but all worked enthusiastically for the cause as the results shorn. We were aided by the Girls' Service League, tbe Liberty Girls of 1918, the "Do Your Bit" Girls, the Camp Fire Girls and the three treops of Boy Scouts, and are well pleased with the results, whirh will allow us now to regularly provide "eats" Sunday mornii»g for the boys who stay in the village Saturday nights, or who visit us on holidays, or on hikes, without having to call on a few special work¬ ers for the funds as we have done heretofore whenewir we ran short. None of the money will be wasted, of that you may be sare. We shall tjoed it all for our boya. along the lines «f President Wilson's admonition to send the iboys over in a happy state «f mind.
Mrs. Davisson.rhairman of the c«m- mittee, wishes to thank all who made the tag day such .a-success. As tihere were some 5,000 of the contributors, she feels this is too big a job to un¬ dertake in any olher way than tbL"!. The Canteen Work

Wc feel it is in order to make spe¬ cial mention of the liberality of Joe Schmitt of the Freeport Park House. were chaperones at the camp and took the girls and the scenery over.
Tuesday and Wednesday cve.iings the play was in the Freeport 'Club which is certainly a most pleasant liJaca to give such a play. It made a social rather than a professional af¬ fair of it. The room and thc balcony were filled both nights with most ap¬ preciative audiences. The nurses from the base hospital at Mineola were en¬ tertained at the play. .Mr, Cuffcy, .Mr. Schley, Mrs. Shebar and some others brought the nurses over so that they had pleasant rides as well as the play.
The improvised stage was abund¬ antly decorated with real boughs and vines to make a garden scene. There was even a real bird's nest in the branches. Miss Marion Seaman paint¬ ed the wall over which the lovers talked and Miss Irene Holland super¬ intended the decorating of the stage as well as the making of the cos¬ tumes.
The acting was natural rather than professional and the girls deserve a great deal of credit for the interpre¬ tation of the parts which they had been working out every day even thru the hottest days for almost a month. It all showed intelligent work and or¬ iginality- The characters were indi¬ viduals with their eccentricities, irri¬ tating faabits and charms. It is a pUiy worth working on to begin with and the girls must feel a satisfaction in having done something really good to¬ gether.

The following communication was received from the telephone conipany:
Referring to the memorandum from the Village Clerk at Froeport con¬ cerning the resolution adopted by the Village Board of Truatees requesting that woiiId continue to handle fire calls in the same manner as we have in the pasit, below is the practice at present followed in the ease of re¬ ports of fire from subscribers at Fi'ee- port:
On aii calis from any operator for Freeport 400 for the Fire DepartmeMt the operator questions the calling party to determine if he wishes to ro¬ port a fire or give a recall for tho fire apparatus. If the calling party says he does not wish to report a fire, he is connected with Freeport ]4ij-.I, the standard public telephone located at the power hou.se. If the calling party wishes to report a fire or give a re¬ call for the fire apparatus he is con¬ nected with Freeport 400.
When the operator rings on 100, bells ring in 4 different locations, i. e., a bell and gong rings on the truck company house, in the office of the Nassau County Review, the fire chief's residence and the power house.
This matter of intercepting and an¬ swering all calls for Freeport 400 puts a certain amount of responsi¬ bility on the operating force in Free- port. It is also vefy burdensome es¬ pecially when tb« regular basiness is heavy.
It is perfectly feasible to have the bells now bridged on the 400 line con¬ nected on an independent wire which could be run by the village at a small cost operated by a pusk button or swittii at the power houae. All calls without the delay or intercepting would then be pat on 400. If the call; was to report a fire, the man at the' power house woiuld operate the switch if necessary. This would make 400 Fneeport available for all calls and <do away with tbe burden of interruption by the operators which is what our traffic manager objects to and for which some remedy must be found.
The fact that Freeport is the only town on L<i!ng Island where thus con¬ ditio* exists would seem to proive it is unnftcessary.
The letter was referred to Presi- deni, Anderson to take up with the company and the fire department.
