On January Kith, you called at this oflice in connection with Long Beach Avenue and Bayview Avenue, the Jirojiosition being to furnish protection at these crossings in the way of a flagman or gates.
We have carefully considered this tjuestion and have had an investiga¬ tion made, and, while uiuloubtedly it would be a groat thing to jirotect every crossing tin the railroad, we simjily cannot afftird to do it, anti the two crossings in tjUestion are Iietter jirotect- than a great many others we have, which are unprotected excejiting by a crossing sign. The very fact that exjiress train;-, ojierate through the vil¬ lage of F'reeport, it seems to us, makes the crtissings safer, because jieople, knowing of the exjiress service, will be more vigilant ami accejit the re¬ sjionsibility which lickings lo lhem vvhen crossing a raliroad track.
