been accomplished. At the con-clusion
of their reports he compli-mented
them on the progress they

Freeporters are expected to flock

of the crew of B-69 bomber
"The Spirit of J^eepprt" who .dre.
coming to Freeport from Okinawa,
after flying 30 combat missions over
Korea to participate In the Armis-tice
Day exercises and remain for
four days to be feted and enter-tained.
Just eight years ago In 1042, Free-porters
went al out In November
and December during a War Bond
sale campaign and Invested more
than $700,000 In 'bonds. Witl^ the
proceeds of this sale, three bombers
were purchased by the'War Depart-ment,
one of which was named "The
Spirit of Freeport." The title was
chosen In a contest conducted by
the War Bonds sale committee under
the chairmanship of Robert E. Pat-terson.

"The Spirit of Freeport't was not
delivered for combat duty until 1946
and whether It participated in World
War H ls*not quite clear. However,
It was used In training after the
war 4nd when hostilities In Korea
broke out rushed to Korea where it
participated In 30 missions and was
hit three times by enemy flak.
While going . over ;the ship last
August, *&he crewmen discovered a
decalcamanla showing that it had
been purchased with the proceeds of
War Bonds purchased by local cit*
