Schriro To Run for
District 22 School Board
George Schriro, of 121 Prospect Street, Farm-ingdale,
announced his candidacy for one of the two
school board posts up for election in Diet. # 22 now
held by Trustees Ethel Rocchio and Edward McNally.
The exact post was not named at this time, ft was
also learned that a running mate would be announced
next week.
Schriro, who served three years as a member of
the Board of Trustees of the Farmingdale Public
Library from July 1, 1957 to June 30, 1960, also
was President from July 1, 1958 to June 30, 1959.
The candidate served as President
of the Farmingdale PTA
Council in recent years and as
head of the Construction Costs
Committee of the Citizens Advisory
Committee appointed by the
Board of Education three years
ago.
The 40 year old aerodynamicist
at Grumman Aircraft Engineering
Corporation is a former mathematics
teacher who taught Weldon
E. Howitt High School in Farming-dale
for six years from September
rtC0 until 195*.
A. resident of Farmingdale fgr
the past 11 years, Mr. Schriro'
holds a B. S. degree and a M. A.
degree from Washington University,
St. Louis, Missouri and New
York University.
The World War II Veteran currently
serves as Chairman of
Music for Long Island and is a
member of the Planning Board of
the Incorporated Village of Farmingdale.
Mr. Schriro is also a member
of the Institute of Aero- Space
Scientists and the Mathematical
Association of America.
He resides with his wife,
Patricia, and three children, Dora,
age 12, Morris, age ten, and Jane,

will present a special young
folk's performance on Saturday,
March 10th at 2 P. M.
The special is " Voyage At The
Bottom of The Sea." Regular
feature will not be shown. This
special will end at 4 P. M.
Bids Accepted
The Postmaster, Farmingdale,
announced today that bids will be
accepted for a contract job cleaner
for the new post office building
located at the corner of Main
and Prospect Streets.
The interior area of the bidding
is approximately 12,000
square feet. The contract will
also include maintenance of the
outside premises and parking
area.
Interested parties may secure
bids from the Postmaster's office.
Bids will be accepted until
5: 00 1\ M. on March 14, 1962.

Many Bethpage residents wno
reside in the Plainedge District
as well as some Farmingdale residents
who pay taxes to District
# 18 are busily thinking ahead to
March 17 and the referendum for
school expansion proposed by the
Plainedge Board of Education.
After five successive defeats,
the majority of residents are hopeful
this year of passage even though
it means getting 2/ 3 " yes" vote.
The costs will not be added to
the real estate tax since the construction
falls under State Education,
Law # 3603c and the District
will receive 100% State Aid.
The referendum calls for:
a. 14 rooms added to the Robert
E. Picken School Building
b. 14 rooms added to the Schwart-ing
School Building
c. 11 rooms added to the John H.
West School Building.
In addition, a second Junior High
School building appropriately located
and constructed on the Baldwin
Drive site to house students
in grades 7 to 9 to accommodate
1,000 or more students.
The cost for the new Junior
High School and the elementary
additions, if approved, will not be
prohibitive. There will be no increase
in tax rate to meet costs
of construction, since these costs
Molino, Hantusch Seek
Village Trustee Post
Joseph Molino of 22 Sullivan Road, Farmingdale, and William Hantusch of 24
Richards Street, Farmingdale have announced their candidacy for the posts of
Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Farmingdale currently held by John J.
Delaney and David W. Allee, neither of whom are running.
Molino and Hantusch stated that die then newly- formed V. LP. Party, Liberty Party
Platform
Liberty Party candidates for
Village Trustee of the Village of
Farmingdale, reiterated today that
their goal is a continued program
of public improvements and effective
administration within present
tax rates.
Running for the two Village
Trustee positions are Willis B.
Carman Jr. and John Hallahan.
They are the Liberty Party candidates
to succeed John Delaney
and David Allee retiring after many
years of service.
The Farmingdale Village tax
rate they pointed out was $ 1.35
in 1957 and today five years later
is only $ 1,50. The combined total

of the Incorporated Village over
the past years has been consistently
lower than the taxes paid
by non- residents. Commenting on
this remarkable record, Candidates
Carman and Hallahan both
stated that " a continuing effort to
keep down Village taxes is of
paramount improtance particularly
in view of the school tax
situation. The Liberty party, as
always, is dedicated to success-

" their victory will end government
by default through one party
control, which only breeds indifference
and neglect of community
needs." Both candidates claim that
they are " pledged" to a constructive
program to " redeem die good
name of Farmingdale" so that
" once again everyone can be proud
of living in the Village."
Molino is an enrolled Public
Accountant of the State of New
York and served as Treasurer of
School District # 22 from September
1, 1955 to June 30, 1957..
He has been a resident of Farmingdale
since 1946. Molino, has
been in the news frequently for
his strong stand against the alleged
violations by the Morris Karp Fertilizer
Firm located in his neighborhood,
He told THE OBSERVER,

out of Mr. Karp."
Hantusch, served from 1955 to
1958 as a member of the Board
of Education of District # 22 and
served as Chairman of the Buildings
and Grounds and as Transportation
Committees. He was defeated
for his bid for reelection
by Trustee Joseph Kenney.
Two years ago in Village
elections in Farmingdale, incumbents
Allee and Delaney defeated
candidates, Hugh J. O'Donnell and
Joseph Domenlco, AUee polled 754
votes, Delaney, 796 votes; while
O'Donnell polled 311 votes and
Domenico, 263 votes. In March,
1960, at this same election. Police
Justice candidate John E. Gillies
won by the vote of 805 over his
opponent, William L. Niles who tallied
265.
This year tnere is no contest
for the Police Justice spot, since
Judge John E. Gillies was elected
two years ago to serve a four year
term,

Registration for new voters will
be held at VtUage Hall, Main Street,
Farmingdale on Saturday, March
10th from 3 pjn. to 8 p. m.

election are eligible
without registration. However, any
resident with any question may
check die registry on Saturday.

regardless of whether they were
paired together by a political party.
