Gifford Retires
from Grumman
The staff of the Personnel Rec-
/ ords IDept. of the Grumman Aircraft
Eng. Corp. tendered a farewell
dinner to Jack Gifford, staff
member, on Tuesday evening, December
19 at the Vienese Coach,
Syosset. All the members of the
personnel staff were present including
Mrs. Bertha Gifford, his
wife.
Mr. Gifford has been a member
of the Personnel staff since he
joined the company in December
1942. During World War II, he was
Personnel Director of Plant 3.
He has also been the Treasurer
of the Grumman Athletic Assoc.,
which post he has held for the past
several years. The Board of Directors
of the G. A. A. gave a luncheon
for him at Corte's Restaurant,
Bethpage.
Mr. Gifford has always been an
active participant in many of the
activities at Grurnman's, having
won several prizes for his displays
! dahLas in the Garden Shows.
Mr. and Mrs. Gifford will con-
[# , tinue living in Bethpage where they
have resided for the past 37 years.
The Gifford's have two married
children, John Gifford, Jr., who
lives in Bellmore with his wife and
a son, John J. Gifford III; and a
daughter, Mrs. Richard Jaisle, who
lives in Farmingdale with her husband
and four daughters.
COLLEGE ON THE MOVE
ROTARY LUNCH TOPIC
Dr. Charles Laffin, Jr., President of the Agricultural and Technical Institute
was the guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Farmingdale, Wednesday afternoon.
The subject of his talk was " College On The Move".

Election Set For January 9
The Farmingdale Youth Council's
Nominating Committee
Chairman, William Vohs presented
the following slate of officers
at the December 12th meeting:

Treasurer - Murray Tuck
The election will take place at
the January 9th meeting at the
Farmingdale Village Hall - 8: 30
p. m.
Preliminary budget hearings for
the Youth Council's 1962- 63 budget
will start January 8th. FredHack-ett
will once again be the chairman
of the budget committee. After
each organization has presented its
budget to the committee, the tentative
budget will be submitted to
the Farmingdale Village Board
and then to the Youth Council
membership before it is presented
to tiie School Board for inclusion
in the budget
We look forward to any help
members of the community can
give toward this extremely important
activity.
E. Leyendecker To Give
Talk On Fallout Shelters
A general meeting of the
Weldon E. Howitt H. S.
P. T. A. will be held Jan.
10, 1962 at 8: 15 P. M. in
the school auditorium.
Speaker for the evening will
be Mr. Eugene Leyendecker
, director of Fa nningfdalc
Civil Defense.
Mr. Leyendecker is oae of
Farmingdale's native sons and is
well known for his many activities
including Little League, past
President of die Youth Council,
retired Lt. of the Nassau Police
Dept. and many others. His subject
for the evening will be Fallout
Shelters and Survival in an Atomic
Attack. This will be a most informative
program where we can
all learn how we can best protect
ourselves and our children.

in the Cafeteria.
Kiwcinis Club To Install
1962 Officers Saturday

This affair will be a combined
Taking Oath of Office
Ladies' Night and Dinner meeting.
Presiding at die meeting will be
immediate Past President James
R. Anderson who will turnover die
gavel and gong to Mr. Minn.
The new president of die Farmingdale
Kiwanis, Lewis C. Minn,
is die proprietor of Fong's
Restaurant and a Charter member
of die Kiwanis. He served as

At die meeting on Wednesday,
December 27tii, A Christmas Program
was held. A mixed quartet
from die Farmingdale High School
under die direction of Paul Erlan-son,
presented a program of
Christmas music. The four
students taking part in the program
were: Judith Wyim, Soprano; Nora
Rash, Alto; George Hubbs, Tenor
and Louis Palumbo, Bass. The two
young men were recently chosen to
sing widi die All State Choir, made
up of students from High Schools
diroughout the state.
Orrin Dow, Chairman of die Salvation
Army Christmas Kettle pro-yect,
announced that a LOial of
$ 229.43 had been collected.
The Annual District Conference
for District # 725 is to be held at
die Garden City Hotel on February
Utfi and 12th. The International
Ball is on Monday night widi two
Rotarians from each club to appear
in costume, representing die 124
countries of Rotary international.
There will be a grand march
and an award for die finest
costume. On Sunday night die entertainment
will be arranged by International
House. It will include
professional dancers from Argentina
and Israel, Bambo Dancers
from die Phillippines, Violin
comedy from Denmark, A singer
from Japan, a guitar player krom
Colombia and a singer from the
Phillippines.
The Rotary Foundation Students
will give their observations on
tiieir visit to this Country. Ladies
programs have been arranged and
will Include an outstanding speaker
and table setting display.
Constellation Installation
The Harriet M. Knoeckel Constellation
of Junior Stars, Farmingdale
Chapter, will hold a public
installation on Thursday, January
4th at 8 P. M. at the Masonic Temple
Main Street, Farmingdale.
F'dale Cancer Committee To
Meet at Northside School

The first meeting of die newly-formed
Farmingdale Cancer Committee
will be held at 8: 15 P. M.,
Tuesday, January 9di, at die Nortii-side
Elementary School. Announcing
this, Mrs. Judith Sturtz,
Chairman, said die group which
is affiliated with die Nassau Division,
American Cancer Society,
will welcome any Farming-dale
resident interested in promoting
die fight against cancer In die
community.
" At tiiis first meeting," Mrs.
Sturtz declared, " we are going
to map out an intensive program
for 1962. It is our aim to make
available to die Farmingdale area
all American Cancer Society resources
in public education and
service to cancer patients and their
families.'
The January 9di meeting will be
an open^ me, and anyone interested
in learning more about die committee
or wishing to take an active
part in its work is cordially
invited to attend. Following a brief
business session, at which key
committee appointments will be
made, top Nassau Division representatives
of die American Cancer
Society will outline what services
and educational materials it is
ready to offer Farmingdale tiirough
its new Cancer Committee.
" We feel," Mrs. Sturtz stated,
" dial die formation of our Committee
will be of immense value
to Farmingdale, bodi in working
to cut die number of needless cancer
deadis here and in easing die
distress of cancer victims and
their families. We are hopeful diat
die residents of Farmingdale will
avail diemselves of what we have
to offer and in turn give time and
energy to promote our programs."
