TOWN TO BUY PARK LAND Councilman A. Carl Grunewald, Chairman of the Town
of Oyster Bay Board's Standing Committee on Parks and
Recreation, will introduce a resolution at the Board's regular
meeting next Tuesday proposing the purchase of a 16.48-
acre site in Farmingdale to be developed as a community
park, complete with swimming facilities.
The site of the proposed park is bounded on the south by
Motor Avenue, on the west by Heisser's Lane, on the north
by the land of the South Farmingdale Water District and on
the east by the former Liberty Aircraft property.
In announcing his intention to offer the resolution calling
for the purchase of this land, Councilman Grunewald estimated
the cost of the land and the construction of the park facilities
to be approximately $ 1,200,000.
" I have held several meetings in the community of Farmingdale
in the past several months with many groups, discussing
the need for a comprehensive park to serve the area. I believe
this facility will be a fine addition to our outstanding and
expanding park system, and upon receipt of Board approval
of my proposal, I will ask the Town Attorney to immediately
enter into negotiations with the owners of the property," Councilman
Grunewald said.
" Based on experience in the development and construction
of other comprehensive parks across the Town, it is estimated
that the park, complete with swimming facilities, would be
ready for use in the spring of 1967," Grunewald added.
At the present time, community parks, complete with swimming
facilities, in use, or under construction, are located in
Plainview - Old Bethpage, Bethpage, Massapequa and Syosset-
Woodbury- Locust Grove.
The Town also maintains 11 beaches on the north and south
shores and 160 neighborhood parks. A community park is also
under construction in Hicksville.
