Allen Named To TOB Planning Commission
Wharton B. Allen J r . of 143 FairviewRoad, Farm-ingdale
was one of five members appointed by the
Oyster Bay Town Board to the newly- created non-salaried
Planning Commission to head up the Town's
Development and Planning Action Department.
A member of the Planning Board of the Inc. Village
of Farmingdale, Allen received his B. A. from
Hobart College. He also graduated Adelphi University
School of Appraisal. Active in industrial
development and the creation of industrial parks,
Allen has served as president of several business
firms that have assisted in bringing to the Town
a number of new industrial complexes. Allen
served in the U. S. Naval Reserve four years and
holds licenses in the insurance and real estate
fields. He is married and has three children.
Also named to the Commission
were Malcolm E. Pierce, an
automobile corporation executive
in Bethpage, and a Fouding member
of the Nassau Better Business
Bureau; James N. MacLean
of Brookville formerly of Mas-sapequa,
an attorney; Curtis Vel-sor
of East Norwich and Edward
J. Cook, Director of Business
Administration at C. W. Post College.
Creation of the bi- partisan
Commission was unanimously
authorized by the Town Board
in August 1964. The Board's resolution
authorizes the Supervisor
to name two members to the
seven- manCommission.
Councilman Edward J. Poulos
said: " The Town Board has spent
a number of months in its search
to find highly qualified persons
having a deep sense of civic r e sponsibility
and diversification
of background to serve on this
Commission. The new Commission
is composed of an outstanding
group of professional persons
and businessmen and the Town
is indeed fortunate that these
