Daler Students
Receive Lincoln
Center Awards
Kenneth Cohen, StuartKramer,
and Kenneth Uva of Farmingdale
Senior High School were among
the winners of the 1965- 66 Lincoln
Center Student awards that
were announced this week in New
York City.
The awards will provide outstanding
students to experience
the performing arts as a part of
an adult audience at Lincoln Center.
The winners, who will be
seniors next fall, were selected
fpr this honor by Lincoln Center
upon recommendation of high
school principals, who nominated
them on the basis of academic
excellence, leadership potential,
and general interest in
the arts.
Two petitions were presented to the District # 22
Board of Education this Monday night at Weldon E.
Howitt J. H. S, One was in protest of the 7: 30 a. m.
bus starting time for students at Parkway Oaks; the
other was in protest of the condition of the athletic
fields at all the school buildings. In addition a large
crowd of irate parents attended the meeting and
spoke in protest on these two matters to the board
during public participation.
According to Jeffrey Mattocks, Transportation
Officer, the 7: 30 schedule was necessary in order
to transport some students to an 8 a. m. school
opening; others to an 8: 30 and others to a 9 a„ m.
opening time including the parochial students of
the district using the same number of buses as last
year. The Board had elected to save $ 15,000 from
the annual budget which would have been needed to
have hired additional buses to take care of the full
time schooling schedule.
Upon motion of Trustee Joseph Kenney, the Board
will review the scheduling and try to recommend
changes at a special meeting to be held on Monday,

An unexpected overflow crowd turned out last Sunday afternoon to join in the
bus tour of historic points of interest in Farmingdale and surrounding communities.
The 25 mile, one hour and a half bus tour was sponsored by the
Farmingdale- Bethpage Historical Society. In the foreground is Alonzo Gibbs,
noted historian and Vice President of the Association, who explained the early
beginnings of the area and the 15 square mile tract of land which comprised the
Bethpage Purchase. Two complete tours were made in an attempt to accomodate
the large crowd. The tours concluded at the Thomas Powell home, Farmingdale
' s oldest house, at 33 Merritt ltd. Photo byj. ck. on Pokr...
