DALERS LEAGUE CHAMPS
Champs Undefeated - One To Go Coach Don Snyder and his
Farmingdale High School North
Shore Division I football champions
may accomplish a feat
this Saturday that hasn't happened
in 27 years.
All the Dalers have to do
on Thanksgiving morning is beat
an unpredictable Bethpage eleven
in a non league encounter at
home to give Farmingdale their
first undefeated season since
1938.
By comparative scores the
Dalers should be die favorites.
But as any foofhall coach will
tell you, this is not the way
the game is played. Farming-dale
opened the season with a
win over Great Neck, a team
which later dropped Bethpage.
On the other hand, last Saturday,
this same Bethpage team could
have tied for die North Shore
Divisior II championship with
a wiii ) ver powerhouse Port
Washington team which has gone
undefeated for several seasons.
The game hung in die balance
until die final moments widi Beth-page
losing 12- 6.
The Dalers, meanwhile, have
chalked up six other wins, all
in league play, beating Plain-edge,
Plainview, Clarke, Syos-set,
Mc Arthur and Hicksville.
The champs trailed 14- 13 a-gainst
Hicksville last Saturday,
and had to come from behind to
nail down die win.
Jim Rogers scored twice for
the winners, once on an 84 yard
scamper and again on a 45 yard
pass play from Steve Woodford
Bob Mableton and Jerry Waters
also scored as did Tony Torio
who recovered a fumble in die
end zone.
Farmingdale began football
competition in 1934 when all
students in the school district
attended die Main Street school.
The first coach, Howard Galvin
led the team to it's first undefeated
season in 1938.
In 1953, the team tied for
' heir first lor".?
with Port Washington and Man-hasset
under die first year tut-leage
of present Coach Don Snyder.
Snyder had served die two
previous years as assistant coach
to die late Paul Jake Donnelly.
