Quiet Please, Noise Now
Illegal In Farmingdale
Noise has become an official
offense in The Incorporated Village
of Farmingdale as a result
of the adoption of an Anti- Noise
Ordinance by the Board of
Trustees on Monday night.
Violators will be subject to $ 100
fine.
The ordinance will go into effect
next week and offers legal authority
to police officers to issue
summonses for excessive noises
from bars, clubs or even private
homes at any hour which is
deemed undesirable. The ordinance
was also aimed at irritating
noises caused by refrigeration
trucks and by factories.
Although there were only ten
people at the public hearing held
prior to its adoption, Major Joseph
Zureck said that he knew
that many residents were vitally
interested in its passage and
stated that it was probably due
to the television documentary of
Pope Paul VI's visit that there
were so few in attendance. The
ten residents who appeared were
from Fulton Street and Eastern
Parkway and asked for relief
In their areas. These residents
have for years complainsd abojt
the annoying noise of refrigerated
trucks and railroad cars near
their homes.
The ordinance also covers
noise made by noisy motorcycles,
faulty automobile mufflers as well
as excessive musical noises that
might disturb the peace.
The lioard also approved new
Street lights to be Installed on
the west side of Thomas Powell
Boulevard from Bethpage Koad
southerly to Yoakum Street. Many
complaints have bt'en received
from residents in this area regarding
motorists discarding
their junk and rubbish, as well
as undesirable parking of cars.
These lights will be installed as
soon as possible.
Supt. of Public Works Hugh
Newman was authorized to attend
the Public Works seminar
to be held at Cornell University
on October 2lst & 22nd. This

of Mayors and other Municipal
