Rev. Henry Passes On
The Reverend Hugh Hutson
Henry, the Episcopal priest who
had been assisting at St. Thomas
Episcopal church, Farmingdale,
passed on Monday afternoon at
Southside Hospital, Bayshore.
Father Henry was born in Antigua,
British West Indies, in
1891. He attended Buxton Grove
Theological Seminary, and was
a Moravian Minister from 1915
to 1922. He attended the General
Theological Seminary, New York
and was ordained Deacon in 1931.
He was Deacon in charge of the
Church of the Crucifixion, New
York 1931- 35, and became Vicar
of St. Barabas Church in 1935.
He was ordained in 1941 and organised
St. Augustine's Mission
in Yonkers and St. Luke's Church
Williamsbridge, Bronx, where he •
was the first Rector. After his
retirement in 1959 he assisted
in parishes in the Diocese of
Long Island, for a time as Priest
in Charge of the Church of the
Messiah, Central Islip.
He is survived by his widow,
the former Lilian Lindquist.
Burial Office and Requiem will
be held at St. Thomas Church
Friday March 12 at 10 a. m.,
with the Rev. Rocco Grimaldi
as officiant, the Rev. Roger Gef-fen
as Celebrant and the Rev.
Alfred T. K. Zadig as Master
of Ceremonies. The service
of Committal will be conducted
by the Right Reverend Jonathan
G. Sherman, Suffragan Bishop
of Long Island, and the Right
Reverend Charles F. Boynton,
Suffragan Bishop of New York.
GOP Club To Hold Debate on Vietnam
The Farmingdale Republican
Club will hold its monthly meeting
on Monday evening, March
15, at 8: 30 p. m. at St. Thomas
Undercroft Church.
The program will include:
Debate on Viet Nam and Grass
Roots Poll.
Congressman James Grover
Escrow To Hold Dinner
The Episcopalian Society for
Cultural and Racial Unity will
hold a dinner meeting on Sunday,
March 14 at 7: 30 p. m. at St.
Thomas Episcopal Church in
Farmingdale when the Reverend
lobert Chapman of Philadelphia
will address the group.

Over 200 are expected to attend.
Liberty Party Has
No Opposition
The Liberty Party's slate of
candidates is running unopposed
in Tuesday's election of officers
for The Incorporated Village of
Farmingdale.
At one time, it seemed likely
that Joseph Molino of Sullivan
Road would get up a ticket to
make it a contest, but a full
slate was not organized.
Running for the post of Mayor
is incumbent mayor Joseph Zu-reck,
Incumbent Trustee Norman
Krasnow, incumbent trustee
John A. Wagner Jr, and Police
Justice John Gillies.
Election day is Tuesday March
16 from 1 to 9 p. m. at Village
Hall.
Fire Chiefs To Host
Demonstration
Chief Charles O'Neil of the
South Farmingdale Fire Department
and Chairman Joseph A-versand
of the Farmingdale Fire
District will host a lecture and
demonstration on plastics, the
hazards, ignition point, toxic effects,
fumes and poisonous gases
this Sunday at 11: 30 a. m. at the
Farmingdale Senior High School.
Guest Lecturer will be Battalion
Chief George R. Sandoe
of the Lancaster, Pa. Fire Department.
First National City Bank next month will begin construction of a new,
full- service branch in Farmingdale. The new branch will be located adjacent
to the present temporary office located at 250 Conklin Street. The
new facility is expected to be ready in the fall. In addition to regular services,
the new branch will have an enlarged banking area, safety deposit
boxes and increased space for customer parking.
A $ 299,060 Farmingdale Public Library operating
budget for the coming year was passed by the Board
of Trustees at Tuesday night's meeting. The proposed
budget will be put before the voters for
approval in May. The proposed budget represents
a $ 27,800 increase over last year's $ 271,200 figure.
According to Mrs. Lyman Van Nostrand, President
of the Farmingdale Public Library's Board of
Trustees, this budget will mean an approximate
two cent increase per $ 100 of assessed valuation
or a total of 33 cents per $ 100 for the public library,
in the Town of Oyster Bay sector of the district.
A public hearing on the budget will be held on
Monday, April 12 at 8: 30 p. m. at the South Farmingdale
Branch Library auditorium.
According to statistical recommendations
of the nominal
number of volumes Der capita,
Farmingdale still falls short of
the New York State's recommendations.
In other action. taken by the
Board, the date of regular monthly
meetings was changed from
the second Tuesday to the second
Monday of each month.
It was also announced mat William
Cramer, who has served as
Director of Young Peoples services
and of the Bookmobile has
submitted his resignation in order
to take on the position of the
Director of the Public Library
system in Lindenhurst.
A small audience of taxpayers
were present. Among the suggestions
was one made by Ed
Werner of North Massapequa for
the purchase of a book entitled
•• Fearful Master" by Edwin G.
Griffin published by Western
Trends. According to Werner the
book points out the dangers of the
United Nations.
It was also learned that the
library trustee post now held by
Dr. Albert Meyerstein who was
appointed last fall will be up for
election in May. Dr. Meyerstein
is also school district physician.
The Board also discussed the
remodeling of the central library
building. Although last year's
budget provided the funds, no work
was started until $ 9,000 of Federal
money was received representing
25% of the cost of die project.
The old bank vaults will be removed
in order to expand the public
service area by 50%, according
to Library Director, Orrin B.
Dow. The area will include a
lounge with seating for adults and
study carols for students. The
square footage will be increased
from 18,000 to 27,000 at a total
cost of $ 38,000. The building was
formerly owned by The First National
Bank of Farmingdale.
Historical Society Proposes
State Legislation
• Gregory Carman, member of
the board of Trustees of The
Farmingdale - Bethpage Historical
Society made a trip to
Albany this week to visit with
William Tyrrell, State Historian
and members of the New York
State Legislature regarding suggested
legislation for historic
preservation.
The Society has advocated the
passage of legislation which
would preserve historic buildings
specifically, " enabling acts"
which would allow the towns and
villages to pass local legislation
to preserve in a number of specified
ways, places and buildings of
aesthetic and historic significance.
PI4 To Offer Two
Two star attractions will be
offered by Farmingdale PTA
Groups on Wednesday, March
24. Frank Warner will present
a program of Folk Music at
the Northside School and Dr.
Joyce Brothers will speak at
the Farmingdale Senior High
School, sponsored by the Woodward
Parkway PTA as a benefit
for the Farmingdale Scholarship
Fund.
Warner, who is an executive
with die YMCA is Past Presi-
Assemblyman Edwin J. Fehren-bach
and his Administrative Assistant,
Harvey Schleuter, who
are both members of the society
have expressed an interest in this
legislation as has Senator Henry
M. Curran. Fehrenbach and Cur-ran
have promised to introduce
the legislation which the society
proposed.
According to Caroline Klesh,
Chairman of the Society's Legislative
Committee, and Farmingdale
Village Historian, " This
legislation is long overdue'' She
has been working with Mrs. Henry
Van Lieuw, Chairman of the Society
for the Preservation of Long
Island Antiquities on die proposed
legislation.

player in " Run Of the Arrow",
\ Civil War motion picture. He
has made a number of recordings-

Civil War in Song and Story."
