EXPANSION ESTIMATED
AT 23* PER HUNDRED Figures were released this
week by the District 22 Board
of Education relating to the estimated
tax impact of the proposed
senior high school expansion project.
It is estimated mat the increase
in tax rate for debt serv
ice will be 23£ per $ 100 of
assessed valuati on for the Town of
Oyster Bay, and 37f per $ 100.
of assessed valuation for the
Town of Babylon on the4,500,000
project. The annual cost in dollars
and cents, based on an
average assessed valuation of
$ 5,000. for Oyster Bay and $ 3100
for Babylon is $ 11.50. Due to the
maturity of two existing bond
issues in 1970, the estimated
tax rate for debt service on this
proposed expansion program will
be reduced from $ 11.50 to $ 7.75
per year.
Although die Farmingdale
School District has built three
new school buildings and six
large additions during the past
several years, the local school
tax rate for debt service is
20^ lower now than it was in
1958 according to Trustee A.
Terry Weathers. At that time,
the tax rate for debt service was
85£ for Oyster Bay and $ 1.53
for Babylon, while the present
debt service is 65£ for Oyster
Bay and $ 1 05 for Babylon. The
reduction was made possible because
of increased state building
aid and increased assessed valuation
of land in the school district.

referendum will take
place at the Howitt Junior High
School on Saturday, November 19,
from 10.00 a. m. to lOsOO p. m.
