VIETNAM HERO FUNERAL
RITES FRIDAY Funeral services for 19 year- old Marine Private First
Class Donald Miller of 31 Spencer Street, West Farmingdale,
who was killed in combat in Viet Nam last Tuesday, will
be held at St. Kilian's R. C. Church on Friday morning at
9 a. m. Memorial services will be held on Thursday evening
at 8 p. m. by the Corporal George Benkert J r . VFW Post
and the Talbonard American Legion Post. On Thursday
evening a Marine Honor Guard will be present from 7 to
10 p. m. at the McCourt and Trudden Funeral Home on Main
Street, during the Memorial Services.
As a tribute to her son's buddies in Viet Nam, Miller's
mother, Mrs. Anthony Capano has already mailed Christmas
gifts and will continue to send packages to men in Company
' G' of the Second Battalion, Fifth Marines stationed near
Da Nang.
Just recently after Mrs. Capano mailed some neatly
wrapped packages to Viet Nam, she received a letter from
her son, which said, " On second thought, Mom, you'd better
not put any names on the packages because God forbid,
one of the boys should be killed." But Mrs. Capano had mailed
the packages, including a tape recorder for Donald. A few
days later on November 30, the news came that Donald
had been killed.
Last August, when Mrs. Capano went to McGuire Air
Force Base to see her son off, she observed other Vietnam
bound servicemen waiting for days for transportation
to the West Coast. While awaiting transportation they were
forced to sleep on benches in crowded conditions. She wrote
to Congressman James Grover who investigated the situation
and had the condition rectified.
Mrs. Capano wrote to her son every day and sent two or
three packages a week to him and to others in his group.
Shd also addressed 210 Christmas cards with handwritten
messages to each of the men of Company G. Mrs. Capano's
action was prompted by her son's remark that some of
his buddies did not receive many letters nor packages.
Farmingdale School District officials are preparing a
memorial for both Donald Miller and William Scott Morgan
of 27 Meadowood Lane, South Farmingdale, the first Farmingdale
Vietnam casualty, who was killed last month.
Miller's remains will be interred in the Long Island
National Cemetery after services at St. Kilian's on Friday
morning.
The deceased is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Anthony Capano, and brothers Robert and James Miller.
The body of Marine Private First Class Donald Miller of 37 Spencer
Street, West Farmingdale arrived home in Farmingdale on Wednesday at
9: 45 A. M. Funeral services will be held Thursday evening at McCourt
and Trudden Funeral Home on Main Street and a Requiem Mass will be held
at St. Kilian's R. C. Church, Conklin Street at 9 a. m. on Friday morning.
An engineer at Fairchild Hiller's Republic Aviation
division enters the lunar module crew station
for the Apollo docking trainer prior to its shipment
to the NASA Manned Spacecraft Center this
month. The trainer will enable the Apollo a s tronauts
to simulate the docking maneuver which
they will perform in lunar orbit.
