VILLAGE RECEIVES
TRAFFIC ANALYSIS The Incorporated Village of Farmingdale received congratulations
from the American Automobile Association for its
record of five consecutive years without a pedestrian fatality
in a report of last year's pedestrian program. However, five
pedestrians were injured during 1965, according to the report,
as compared with six in 1964 and seven in 1963 and three in
1962.
The report went on to suggest that traffic safety organization
and school traffic safety needs more attention.
" Public support for safety education programs Is essential
to successful accident prevention efforts. One of the best
methods of obtaining widespread support is by involving local
business and civic leaders in the planning and development of
community- wide safety programs", the report suggested.
" In smaller communities the role of a coordinating safety
organization is sometimes assumed by groups such as the Junior
Chamber of Commerce or Boy Scouts," the report continued.
Employee Killed At Local Plant
" School safety patrol programs offer youngsters a unique
experience in a worthy, citizenship- building, educational project.
In addition to learning to be concerned for the welfare of others,
safety patrols act as on- the- spot safety teachers and exert
a great beneficial influence on your children", the report
stated.
Traffic engineering in The Incorporated Village of Farming-dale
was rated, " outstanding effort", while accident records,
legislation, enforcement and public education were termed
' good'.
Such pedestrian traffic control facilities were rated as intersections
marked with crosswalks, arterial street mileage with
lighting meeting standards and total miles of streets with
sidewalks on at least one side of the street as well as signs,
signals and markings related to pedestrians.
The report pointed out that safety patrols for school crossings
were essential.

Delivery of the first of 25 Bikini tactical photo reconnaissance drones
was made to the Marine Corps this week by Fairchild Hiller's Republic
Aviation division. Here one of the high- wing, 100 mph, surveillance craft
is checked out prior to shipment. The Bikini system consists of the drone
and a trailer- mounted pneumatic catapult for launching. Just over six
feet long, it has a range of ten miles. The Marines will conduct tests of
the system at Camp Lejeune, N. C. between now and the end of the year.
