COMMITTEE FORMS TO
BRING BACK MUSIC
A new organization, " Music For Farmingdale" was formed during
the past week at the home of attorney Joseph Stern. The group was
formed to bring classical music for the benefit of adults and young
people in Farmingdale.
Three concerts have been planned for Farmingdale for three
Saturday evenings this spring featuring The Orchestra Da Camera,
designated " The Showcase" orchestra by the New York State
Education Department.
A second meeting has been planned for this Friday, November 21 at
8 p. m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Klesh, 33 Merritt Road,
Farmingdale at which time officers for the newly formed
organization will be elected.
The Orchestra Da Camera is partically supported by the New York
State Council on the Arts and The Music Performance Trust Funds
with the cooperation of the American Federation of Musicians, Local
802, Jerome Adler, Trustee.
Flori Lorr of 129 East Drive, North Massapequa, was instrumental
in forming Orchestra Da Camera ten years ago and held performances
in the Farmingdale Public Schools. She was recently
commended by the New York State Education Department for her
leadship in bringing " the living arts into the lives of students and
adults".
Orchestra Da Camera features chamber opera, sung in English and
includes orchestra, costuming and stage sets. In collaboration with
Arthur Mitchell's Dance Theatre of Harlem, it presents, classic,
modern and jazz ballet and for the first time established a readily
available professional dance company with orchestra for Long
Island.
The Orchestra's sub- divisions include a String Quartet, and Brass
and Woodwind Ensembles. This year's innovation's include the
Baroque Ensemble and Poperetta, the newly coined term for a light-hearted
and contemporary approach to opera. The production includes
singers, orchestra, narrator and modern dance, all staged.
The Orchestra Da Camera will present over 250 performances on
Long Island this season.
The Orchestra offers commissions to composers for special student
oriented works; use of gifted youthful soloists and the employment of
new gifted conductors.
Scheduled for Weldon E. Howitt auditorium is a concert conducted
by Lawrence Smith with Carol Reinhart as Trumpet soloist and to
include the works of Hayden, Vivaldi and Ginastera. On March 21 the
concert will be under the direction of Herbert Grossman with Matthew
Raimondi, the violin soloist. Works will include Handel's Water
Music, Stravinsky, Mozart, Grieg and Sibelius.
On April 18, the Orchestra will accompany a production of the Gian
Carlo- Menotti's " The Telephone and the Medium" at the Farmingdale
Senior High School. This opera will be performed with sets
and costumes and full orchestra accompaniment.
A seasons ticket for the three performances will be sold at $ 10
donation. Student tickets for each individual concert will be priced at
$ 1 per concert. Call 799- 1150 for further information.
SENIOR CITIZENS ART WINNER. Joseph M. Kubick of 16 Tyler Drive,
Farmingdale, ( right) accepts first prize of $ 100 for his painting, Sidewalks of
• New York, in the Senior Citizens Art Show held at Hofstra University. Making
the award is Clarence Geiger, executive assistant to Senator Edward J. Speno,
who sponsored the show for Nassau County senior citizens. Kubick's painting
won top prize among 55 entries.

Hempstead Turnpike, Bethpage shows school children
