LIBRARY, YOUTH COUNCIL
VOTESETFORWEDNESDAY
Community groups have been lining up in favor and against the
passage of the Farmingdale Public Library budget to be voted upon
on Wednesday, May 6 at Weldon E. Howitt Junior High School gym.
from 12 noon to 10 p. m.
The Farmingdale Council of PTA's is urging voters to vote ' yes' on
the Farmingdale Public Library budget and to approve proposition
two to restore a full schedule of services that have been curtailed due
to last year's library budget defeat. The library has been operating on
the same budget as the previous year.
A group called DEBT, this week passed out a flyer against the
budget.
In the twoway race for library trustee post, incumbent Trustee
Albert N. Meyerstein received the endorsement of FACT, Farmingdale
Action Committee for Truth. They said in their unanimous
statement, " Dr. Meyerstein has served this community for 30 years.
His sincerity and dedication to Farmingdale have been proven."
Candidate Joseph S. Crocco has filed for the five year post now held
by Meyerstein.
The Friends of the Library have endorsed the budget as well as the
purchase of the South Farmingdale Library Branch.
196 new voters registered on Saturday to total 9,675 eligible voters
for the Wednesday vote. Now that people may register whether they
are property owners or not there is a potential of 27,000 voters. Prior
to the change in law, there had been a potential of 20,000.
Since 1967, the library budget has not been approved and the library
has been operating with curtailed services.
The building purchase will not affect the tax rate one way or
another. Paying off the bond will amount to the same as paying rent.
The Youth Council budget to be raised by taxation to be voted upon
on Wednesday is $ 137,205.80 carries an estimated tax rate of 14 cents in
Oyster Bay and 22 cents in the Town of Babylon sector of the district.
