AVERT TEACHERS STRIKE
A teachers strike in School District 22, slated for
Wednesday of this week, was averted by a settlement
on Monday night. The two year contract was ratified
by the Teachers union on Tuesday.
The contract called for an $ 894,000 in salaries and
was said by a school spokesman to represent a 10 per
cent raise.
The total budget figure up for approval is $ 21,670,086
Sam McBrien of Farmingdale, winner of the Miss Lady Martin
Beauty Pageant, tries her hand at chess with a serviceman patient
during a visit to St. Albans Naval Hospital. The beauty queen won in
a competition over 500 girls from five states in a pageant sponsored
by a national paint firm.
" Dictating" new release to Mrs. Jean Rutberg of Westbury, at the
" Career Day," is Alfred Daddio of Farmingdale, who served as
Press Secretary to the County Executive. Career Day events included
mock Boards of Supervisors meeting, a visit to the oil ice of
the County Executive and a one hour trial run in Press Secretary
Paul M. O'Brien's office. Daddio is a senior at Farmingdale High
School.
representing an increase of 2,396,730 over last year's
figure of $ 19,273,356.
The estimated tax rate will be $ 11.97 in the town of
Oyster Bay sector of the School District, an increase of
$ 1.27 over last year's amount of $ 10.70. In the Babylon
sector of the school district the estimate is $ 18.62 over
last year's figure of $ 16.33.

Police Disperse Students At State U,
250 students gathered in the
Administration Building at the
State University, Farmingdale,
on Monday and chanted " Strike".
The students were warned at
4: 15 p. m. by John Purcell, Acting
University President, that they
were " engaged in unlawful and
disorderly conduct" and would be
subject to arrest if they did not
leave. All but 35 left and the
Suffolk County Police arrived at
4: 45 p. m. and dispersed them.
Budget Hearing Slated
For June 1
There will be a budget hearing
on the proposed 1970 - 71 Farmingdale
Public School budget
following the regular meeting of
the Board of Education on
Monday, June 1st. at 8: 30 p. m.
instead of 9: 00 p. m. The meeting
will take place in Guilford Hall in
the Farmingdale High School.
Registration for residents who
are not registered to vote in the
annual election will be held at the
Weldon E. Howitt Junior High
School gymnasium, on Wednesday,
June 3, between the
hours of 10: 00 a. m. and 10: 00
p. m.
The annual meeting of the
board of Education is scheduled
to take place on Tuesday, June 9,
in the Weldon E. Howitt
auditorium at 8: 30 p. m. and
voting will take place on Wed-'
nesday, June 10 in the Weldon E.
Howitt gymnasium from 10: 00 a.
m. to 10: 00 p. m.
