Vote Slated
December 10
Stating " Much improved
public library services for the
community have moved a step
closer," the Farmingdale
Library Trustees approved the
architects plans for a new central
library building. " The4 . new
facility will replace the two
crowded inadequate outlets that
have been your library for the
past decade," they said. " AH our
seven neighboring communities
have constructed modern, functional
new library buildings in
the last ten years. Now it is
Farmingdale's turn!"
The consultant's original
recommendations of a 35- 38,000
sq. ft, library were pared by Ml
resulting in a building area'of
30,000 sq. feel. In this joint effort
by the Board and Architect
Henry J. Stojowski it was
possible to retain all essential
features of a new, efficient
building while keeping costs
down in an inflationary period.
This building will replace the two
existing facilities -- the 4,000 sq.
ft. Main Library and the 13,000
sq. ft. South Farmingdale
Branch. The final "' cost revision
results in a referendum Bond
Issue amount of $ 2,100,000. Over
the 30 year life of the Bond Issue
the cost to the average
homeowner < $ 6,000 assessed
valuationjin Oyster Bay; $ 4,000
assessed valuation in Babylon)
would be 68 cents per month at
the outset gradually declining to
33 cents per month or an average
of 50 cents per month over the life
of the Bond Issue.
This proposed first public
library building for Farmingdale
will be constructed on the site of
the Main Street School. Voting on
the building referendum will take
place at the South Farmingdale
Branch Library on Tuesday, Dec.
10, from 10 am to 10 pm. Regular
school district voter
qualifications are in effect:
Citizen, over 18 years of age,
resident 30 days. Those voters not
already registered under the
School District permanent
personal registration may do so
at the S. F. Branch Library on
Tuesday, December 3 from noon
to 10 pm.
A model of the new building is
on display at the S. F. Branch
Library. The Trustees will hold
two general informational
meetings on the building, dates to
be announced and are available
to speak to interested groups on
request to the Library Office
