Farmingdale's recently opened Christopher Jack's II
could easily have become a blazing inferno early
yesterday morning if it had not been for an alert South
Farmingdale fireman, who spotted a burning " molotov
cocktail" next to the building as he was passing.
Three gallons of gasoline were
discovered on the roof of the
nightclub by firemen when they
arrived at the scene at
approximately 1 a. m. A one
gallon container, its top off, was
found lying on its side on the high
roof of the building. Two more
gallons in small " orange juice"
containers were found on the first
floor roof in two shopping bags.
.. Apparently the gasoline loaded
bottles were placed on the roof by
someone who climbed up onto the
building. Fire Marshal Jirri
Holmes is investigating the
attempted arson.
The " molotov cocktail" in a
vodka bottle, was apparently
filled with gasoline at the scene
from empties discarded in the
garbage dumpster behind the
building. It apparently rolled off
the lower floor where the bulk of

Hearing Set
An opportunity is being offered
area residents to voice their
views on state and local financing
practices at a public hearing to
be held June 19 at Farmingdale
University's Whitman Hall.

the Temporary State Commission
on State and Local
Finances, announced the completed
schedule for a series of
public hearings to be held
throughout the State, during the
month of June, to solicit the views
of all interested parties on the
matter of State and Local
Finances.
The Commission is directed by
the 1973 Legislature to make a

TURNING BACK THE CLOCK: Oyster Bay Town Councilman Gregory W. Carman [ right] Joins
officials of the Hardscrabble Day celebration in Farmingdale for opening ceremonies. Farmingdale
used to be known as Hardscrabble for reasons now lost to history. To commemorate the day, local
merchants and civic groups displayed their wares along the sidewalks of Farmingdale in the style of an
