that Weldon , E. Howitt
has consented to become the
Grand Marshall of the Fair.

procession which will start the
day's celebrations from the

Marshall will be, among others,
Gary Hammond, a young
member of the Bethpage
Historical Society, Norman and
Lujta Jones, Farmingdale
Historians, and Miss and Master
Hardscrabble Johanna Giaco and
Robert Peralta. Farmingdale's
mayor, The Honorable John
Hallahan, escorted by Orrin B.
Dow, director of Farmingdale
Public Library; village officials,
The Farmingdale School
District would recover the
substantial value of real property
tax revenue lost through the
State's condemnation of property
beginning in 1969 for the MTA's
use of Republic Airport under
legislation sponsored by
Assemblyman Philip B. Healey
( R-- Massapequa).
The measure, co- sponsored by
Assemblyman Stuart R. Levine
( R- Bethpage) was passed today
by the Assembly.
The State Board had originally
implemented a transitional
assessment formula for partial
reimbursement of the school
district's loss of property tax
revenue for only five years
beginning with the 1969- 70 school

his candidacy for

the 5 year term expiring June 30,
and presently occupied by Irwin

South Farmingdale, is a resident
there for 14 years. He is married
with 3 children: Patricia, a

year. Under Healey's bill the
1973- 74 transition assessment of
approximately$ 580,400 would be
frozen indefinietly until the
assessed valuation of other
property in this part of town
increased by that amount. ,
" In essence," said Healey,
" the State would pay approximately
$ 150,000 per year for
as many years as is needed.
" I have had a series of conferences
with both the members
of the Senate Finance Committee
and the Governor's Office to
bring about this long sought
relief. This measure is in keeping
with the ' save- harmiess'' clause
which I initiated several years
ago to provide our school
districts with at least as much
operating aid in any one year
than was received in the previous
year.
" The Farmingdale School
District has benefited from this
' save- harmless' aid but the
transition freeze would help to
ease the burden of taxpayers who
would have had to bear the price
of covering the revenue loss of
almost a quarter of a million
dollars," concluded Healey.
The measure is sponsored in
the Senate by Senator Owen H.
Johnson ( Rr- Nassau).
trustees of the Library and
representatives of Farmingdale
community organizations will
also join the short parade.
Keeping everyone stepping
high and lively will be the
Dalerettes from Farmingdale
High School and a marching
band...
