Bicentennial Commission's flag commemorating the designation of
the Town as a national bicentennial community. Presenting the flag

Farmingdale Schools
Cheated By State Aid
Smaller suburban districts
such as those in Nassau County
would be forced to dramatically
slash education programs while
larger cities receive greater
State education aid than they are
entitled to according to
Assemblyman Stuart R. Levine
( R~ Bethpage).
Assemblyman Levine said that
if th| p plan proposed by the Task
Force on State Aid to Elementary
and Secondary Education is
approved, " the school districts in
the 10th Assembly District would
be sorely cheated.

During Holiday
Eighth Precinct police
reported three burglaries in the
Farmingdale North
Massapequa area during the past
week.
A doctor's office at 855 S. Main
Street was entered sometime
between April 3 and 14, while the
doctor was on vacation. The
intruder pried opeo a basement

speakers, a man's wallet con­taining
$ 15, a quartz lamp, $ 125 in
assorted currency, assorted rings
and jewelry, hand tools and
binoculars.

Library Considering
New Building Site?
The Farmingdale Board of Library Trustees are planning to present a special
referendum to the voters on June 29 for the construction of a new library building,
but thus far don't know where it will be built.
The trustees are negotiating with the Farmingdale Board of Education for the
use of the Main Street School property ... if the school board can or will break the
lease with BOCES. This plan would have the present school building razed and a
new library building erected in its place.

districts to avoid adding further
expense on the already over­burdened
taxpayer,"- said

" Nassau County is a major
taxpaying component in New
York State and should receive a
proportionate amount of
education assistance. It is grossly
unfair to watch cities, such as
New York, receive excessive
funding based on enrollment
records which are not valid
because money is spent on
registered students who never
see the inside of the classroom
from one end of the school year to
the next.
" Our State money should be
invested wisely and directed
toward financing the education of
youngsters who believe that
quality education is a necessity of
life."
Head- on Crash

morning following a head- on
collision in the Village of Far­mingdale.

Frank Gelish, a member of the
Farmingdale Board of
Education, has announced that
he will seek re- election to the
board. \
A resident of Farmingdale ior
over 20 years, he has been ac\
tively involved in many phases of
community service. There is
hardly an activity concerning the
youth of Farmingdale in which
Frank Gelish has not played an
important part. He has served in
many capacities in Little League
and has been commissioner and
secretary of minor league
baseball. He served for many
years as both vice president and
president of Farmingdale Youth
Council. He presently serves as a
member of the Youth Board and
was appointed to the Youth
Advisory Committee of the Town
of Oyster Bay.
For many years, Gelish has
been active in the Parent
Teachers Association. He was a
charter member and treasurer of
the Mam St. P T A, treasurer,
Frank Gelish
vice president and president of
the Howitt P T A, vice president
of the Senior High P T A and has
also served as vice president of P
T A council. He is still a member
of the executive board of the
Senior High School P T A. For

The library trustees, according
to Board President Joseph
Crocco, feel this would be the
best plan, since its district
already owns the property.
If the Board of Education rules
against the use of the Main Street
School property, the library will
then seek the purchase. on
another site. " We have several
other sites in mind," Crocco told
the Post, " but it's premature to
reveal them by name or location,
since condemnation proceedings
would be involved."
BOCES should be happy to get
out of the Main Street School
lease, Crocco stated, since there
are a lot of newer schools being
vacated next year ... four in
Plainview alone.
The library trustees hope to
have the site location question
settled soon, so they can arrive at
a total cost figure for the project
by May 1.
If the voters approve the bond
issue for a new library, the
rented South Farmingdale
Branch would be eliminated at
the end of its present lease. It
would also mean the probable
closing of the present Main Street
Library and the sale of that
building, although that question
