Asst. Principal Cut Protested
E. Memorial Crowd
Supports Ted Watt
A large group of parents, predominently from the East
Memorial Elementary School district, attended Monday
night's Board of Education meeting to protest the
proposed elimination of two assistant principals in the
Farmingdale schools in general and Theodore Watt,
East Memorial's assistant, in particular.
EAST MEMORIAL PARENTS show mixed emotions as they are told they are not going to lose an
assistant principal, but will lose the man that holds the position. The group appeared at Monday night's
board meeting in support of their man, Theodore Watt, who is low man on the seniority list.

The group was told by Robert
Campbell, president of the board,
that the board is presently
seeking public reaction to the
elimination of the two assistant
principals. If the b^ ard feels that
the public is in favor of the
economy measure, the two
lowest on the seniority list would
be released.
Because the principal's contract
requires that five month's
notice be given, notice of the
proposed elimination of positions
was given to the two last appointed
assistant principals: Ted
Watt of East Memorial and Mrs.
Elizabeth Passman of Woodward
Parkway. *
Campbell said the measure
would save the district taxpayers
about 58 cents per thousand on
their tax rates.
The East Memorial group
apparently was not aware that
the assistant principalship at that
school was not to be eliminated,
but only the man that holds the
position, since Watt was last on
the list in seniority. They reacted
more strongly against the board
when told they would get another
assistant principal, transferred
from another school in the
district which lost the position.
When asked " Do you mean that
another assistant principal from
another elementary school would
not be just as good" the crowd
burst into applause.
Campbell told the group that
nothing has been formalized as
yet and there are several public
meetings yet to be held to consider
the matter. The next
meeting will be next Thursday,
March 14, in the high school.
The Farmingdale Board of
Education will inform the public
of the current status of budget
preparation for the coming
school year. Known and unknown
factors influencing the budget
will be discussed and the public
will have an opportunity to make
its views known. The meeting will
be held on Thursday, March 14, at
8: 30 p. m. at the Senior High
School.
During the regular business
portion of the meeting, the board
